Beyond just plain awful canned Chinese food. I can't imagine how this place has such a high rating (which is why we tried it) unless the previous reviews were planted or if the previous reviewers have NEVER had actual really good (not even great) Chinese food. We ordered sesame chicken, and the hard-fried batter-meat combination was not only bland, greasy and devoid of any hints of ginger or garlic, but it was also hard to chew, and just plain gross. There was NO, REALLY NO hint of sesame in any part of the dish we ordered. We also ordered hot and sour soup - something I can make myself with full authenticity, and which they gave at least a better try at than the sesame chicken, but which was still sorely lacking. The mushrooms, bamboo shoots, vegetables and egg seemed fresh and appealing - but the flavor of the broth was bland, 9 shades short of the "sour" that gives the soup it's name, and also lacking the ginger, chicken broth, and black pepper that make it worth eating. The crab rangoon were "good on the inside" which I have to give them props for. The filling was pretty good - but the wrapper was heavy, doughy and not worth spending your time on (let alone your dollar). Also- the wrappers for these were served diced and fried as "crackers" for the soups - I've had MANY thousand times better.
All in all - I wouldn't spend another dollar there. It's sad that this northwest suburban enclave is so devoid of real Chinese delicacies that most of the reviews of Tang's Garden are actually positive. My wish for the uninformed is that they get to experience REAL Chinese food at some point in...
Read moreIt's a neighborhood Chinese takeout joint. It gives you a distinctive impression of being a dive from outside (and inside), but the food is very good with generous portions.
There are three-four tables, and we decided to dine in at this time. I thought Bourbon Chicken was very good. Lunch Specials (11 to 3, $7.49, except a couple of lobster dishes) are served Wednesday through Monday (Tuesday is their day off). Combo plate (even bigger portions) is $10.95 with a spring roll (unfortunately it wasn't too good IMHO), so it's a much better deal to get a lunch special for sure. Incidentally, a spring roll is $1.95 if you ordered it on the side. Their pork (cha siu) fried rice that comes with both Lunch Special and Combo plate is...
Read moreThis is one of those "hole-in-the-wall" places that are mainly set up for take out orders. Although they do have a few tables for dining in, I don't think they have wait service. đ¤ (That's just my opinion because it's not that type of restaurant with the ambiance. The tables are there more for if you'd rather sit there to eat your food, IMO)... I really love their scallion pancakes as an appetizer as well as their General Tso's, Chicken in Garlic Sauce, and Mu Shu Pork! đ I feel like a Chinese food conoiseur and this is the only place that I will order from. Moved to a neighboring area over 12 years ago and I've tried every single Chinese place over the years. This is the only one I go to now and I will drive out of my way to order...
