Our group of four was refused service in the patio area for having a closed bag of outside food with us. We intended to eat dinner and have drinks and were planning to spend around $150+ here but we were turned away. We had eaten at the nearby food cart earlier in the day for lunch and were told it was fine to bring food over from there, but apparently, you can’t bring anything from anywhere else. We were dissatisfied with the way we were treated as we were not given any option except to leave, it was very disappointing. I can’t comment on the food or beer because we were not even given the opportunity to try them. We all work extremely hard and are on vacation to relax. We are from Portland and have never experienced such a strict and rude treatment from any of our local spots. I even read a comment by the owner from an earlier review right here that says guests are welcome to bring in outside food, it’s so confusing. I guess this is a place that caters more to (white) locals, and gives visitors unwelcoming treatment. Avoid this place if you enjoy good hospitality and are vacationing in the area especially if you are a foreigner. There is no hospitality to be found here, at least this was our experience.
Reply to the owner’s reply: To publicly lie here really shows your true nature to all. We had ONE small brown paper bag with ONE order of onion rings in it which I told your employee (or co-owner?) that we wouldn’t open. I told her what was in the bag- she knew and decided to behave like a total weirdo as you are now. We were all trying to order full dinner and drinks but she refused to take our order. We even told her what we wanted to order so there was no miscommunication and we were not consuming any outside food on your property. We asked permission to stay and we were very clearly denied. We were shocked when she gave us an attitude and walked away. We feel that this was possibly a racist act by this employee toward us and want to warn others here so they can avoid your business and avoid any conflict there. My foreign friends and my foreign born husband were with me and your employee was very rude to them. We are all over 40 and very financially secure- to give an accurate picture. If anyone reads the other reviews here, they will see we are not the only ones who have experienced unusual behavior from your staff. In one of your replies to another review of your business, you wrote that it’s ok to bring outside food. It is a common practice of small brewery businesses in the Portland area to allow outside food. Maybe the the reply you made on the other review was from before you had a kitchen? We didn’t even know you had a kitchen at the time we arrived. We were never dishonest with your staff, we told her our mistake and told her we wouldn’t consume the outside food there. I don’t think any of you are genuine or nice at all. You may be good at brewing beer (we were not given the opportunity to try it so we don’t really know if it’s good) but you are not good at running a business. You should give it up and stick with what you enjoy and...

Initially, our first experience here began oddly. I started out on a solid 3/10 assessment. Live music night, so long wait. No problem. We get to order and I ask if I can swap the Canadian bacon for pepperoni on a pizza and was told a hard no. I still don't quite understand if the rule is you are not allowed to add ingredients, make requests on specific pizza recipes, or if you can't ask for ingredients to be left off. I was told to pick off the Canadian bacon if I didn't want it, but there was no way they could add/swap for pepperoni. It was a truly bizarre experience. They have a hard line of no outside food or drinks, just be aware. Not even the coffee purchased next store because they don't serve coffee is allowed.
The pizza was good, kitchen was rushed. Skip the salad. Don't make the food here the attraction to Beachcrest. Try the parking lot for a food truck if you're hungry. You're here for the beer and the music. The beer selection is decent with a variety of port, cider, lager, stout, ipa, helles, wit beer, and red, as of 07302022, but beers will be on rotation so try a few, don't abuse the samples though.
On band night, get there early. Bring lawn chairs. The indoor and outdoor areas fill up and stay that way. There is an incredibly small area where alcohol can be consumed. It's an immense challenge when your draw of people is alcohol. The chipper staff will remind you they don't care where you sip, you just can't sip here. Or there. Or where the seating is.
Okay, time for the good. The live music set up is dope. The band that played tonight was awesome and more than one are local music teachers. I'm hesitatant to say dogs are welcomed, but they are allowed. The kitchen staff was night and day different in their handling of customers.
Don't be rude. Bus your own table. Overall, my 3/10 rating became a 7/10 by the time we were heading out due to the jams and kind locals. I dunno who I have to become friends with to get a pineapple, pepperoni, and mushroom pizza with those delicious tiny red peppers things on it, but dang it, ill bring you back a 6 pack of whatever you want at Avery Brewing Co on my way back from CO next time to get...

A special shout-out to Ashli, who has been a constant since the very first day I walked through the doors. She is, without a doubt, one of the best servers I’ve ever had—attentive, friendly, and always going above and beyond to make each visit memorable for every guest. Her knowledge of the menu and genuine enthusiasm make her a standout. Recently, she went above and beyond when an accident occurred in the parking lot, immediately stepping in to get help. Her kindness and quick thinking made a huge difference, and I can’t thank her enough for her compassion.
