Shirley's Cafe & Grill — Restaurant in Linden

Don't know if we caught the waitress on a bad morning, or if she was seating us at the worst table in the dining room because they were about to get busy and she wanted to save the better tables for the regulars. Our table was so close to another table with two people sitting there we may as well have joined their conversation, as well as so close we had NO room to move our chairs. To make it worse the table was placed with the back chair in a corner, not a nice roomy corner, but a small, no space, hard to get into corner, directly UNDER the TV. There were at least 10 to 15 empty tables available that were out in the open. Not sure what we did to upset the waitress or if she is always that way. We have lived in Linden for 36 years and always like Shirley's. Won't ever go back, we do eat there occasionally, just not on a regular basis. Our kids and grandkids do though, but not anymore. Quaint little place, themed in a old fashion diner style. Decorated with records and lots of elvis. It is a small location, so seating is limited, large groups not recommended unless you might be able to call ahead ? We went for breakfast, so I could only speak to breakfast foods, but it was good overall. Nothing stood out as fantastic, but i would come back. Far amount of choices on the menu, with a decent variety. Staff was friendly and everything appeared clean. I love little places like this, serving good food for good process with a bit of individual flair added in. The style and atmosphere is comfortable and reminds me of the diners you might see in movies where the waitresses know all the regulars by name and order. They also have a rotating special menu for the day in addition to the standard menu.
