Yerbabuena Mexican Cuisine — Restaurant in Lisle

I really wish I could leave a better review however our experience at the restaurant was nothing short of HORRIBLE!

We don't live in the area & went to visit the Morton Arboretum, after leaving we decided to stop here & get a bite to eat before our almost 3 hr road trip back home.

Upon arrival (approximately 6pm) the hostess looked us up & down. We, my husband, myself & 2 of our adult children, we're dressed fairly causally due to our hiking trip that day & it was clear she was being judgemental of our appearance. I paid no attention to her attitude/demeanor because after all she doesn't know us. When she realized we weren't bending to her excuse of a 20-30 minute wait she snatched a pager off the wall, shoving it in my hand & told us we could wait outside. I proceeded to tell her, thank you but we'd much rather sit on the bench inside the air.

Things only got worse. After watching several other people be seated ahead of us, we were finally seated almost 45 minutes later at a very small outside table in a corner.

We were not given menus, our waitor had to ask twice for our menus. By this time it was almost 7pm. After receiving our menus, we ordered our drinks & waited another 30 minutes to recieve those.

At 7:30 pm we had finally received our drinks, a VERY watered down pink lemonade, 2 margaritas & a water. The margaritas were disgusting & to quote my son, I will filter his exact words, tasted like urine in a cup.

At this point, I had enough, became very tearful & we decided to take our business else where.

My husband told them we were leaving at which time the hostess charged him almost $30 for 3 drinks we didn't even drink.

After finding this out I went back in, clearly upset, I told her I didn't think it was appropriate for her to charge us that much for drinks we didn't even drink & wanted my money back. She began to argue with me, attempted to indicate I was being rude & unruly in order to avoid to giving me our money back & even went so far as to threaten me with talking the owner.

We did get our money back & while doing so the hostess shoved my receipt in my face showing me the money had been refunded.

Upon leaving she said to the other hostess "I don't know what I did wrong", which to me indicates this is a common behavior with her.

We arrived at 6:00p on a Saturday night. Waiter was quick to our table to get our drink order. Drinks were served quickly with very little alcohol. We were ready to order because we knew what we wanted, my wife had asked if they serve Paella before we came. We got our Guac in less than 5 minutes. Our entrees arrived in about 10 minutes, I was disappointed because Paella takes at least 45 minutes to cook properly. It was not served in a pan. The rice was not sizzled as it is supposed to be. It's a slow-cook dish. Simply, it wasn't Paella. I did not complain because I was being taken out for my birthday. Entrees were small. We were finished quickly. As each person finished, the waiter came and asked if he could take the dishes. We still had not finished our drinks. The check arrived at our table at about 6:50p. At about 6:55 the waiter came to get the payment, but we hadn't looked at it yet and so we stopped our conversation to pay the bill and he picked it up right away and returned. We signed the bill with a normal tip at about 7pm. The waiter picked it up promptly. At about 7:05, or earlier, the hostess came to ask us to finish up because people were waiting. We had been there an hour and 5 minutes. If you want a fast meal, this might be your place. To be sure you get what you think you are ordering, ask the waiter to describe it or show it to you. Ate lunch on 5/23, server was lovely, food was great. The hostess was horrible. She seated a lady in front of me then waived a menu from back in the restaurant for me. I asked if I could sit outside and they only had room upstairs, full sun. I said that was fine she grumbled "upstairs" and I asked where are the stairs, she turned her back and walked out to say something to a man seated at an outdoor table. Thinking he was going to show me to my seat, she proceeded to come back and wait on three men who had just walked in. Same conversation about outside seating, she handed them menus and radioed a party of three. I asked if I was to follow them, she stared blankly at me not saying a word. The stairs are behind a self closing door with no window; not obvious. I went upstairs, found a table and waited. The waitress came by and said something about not being told I was coming. I picked up my purse to leave and the waitress was very kind, apologized, I explained what had just happened and she encouraged me to stay. The meal and service was excellent. On my way down, the same angry hostess was yelling "wait, wait" to a party heading upstairs, she asked them to give the waitress 5 or 10 minutes to catch up and they asked "where should we wait" and she said anywhere and walked away from them. If I see this same woman as the hostess on my next visit, I will not bother spending my time...
