The BakeHouse — Restaurant in Litchfield

Overall I really wasn’t impressed. The staff however was very nice. Other than that I can’t say much. Very dimly lit and the coffee was almost undrinkable. I’m not sure if the just the cream was spoiled but I was with a group a people and all 4 of us threw our coffees out including the cold brew and nitro brew. The coffee was just terrible. The croissants we got were stale. The thing that put me off the most was the construction of the actual coffee shop. Exposed 2x4’s and wiring. The Sheetrock against the back wall was just punched through for the fire alarm. The Sheetrock on the opposite wall was unevenly cut and just plain doesn’t look good. Whoever painted got paint all over the beams. The lettering though was done nicely. I won’t be returning anytime soon but if I do, I hope they make some...

The baked goods are delicious. The staff is always polite & friendly. Be careful parking. Today, 5/30 @ approximately 9:30am, my husband was parked on rt 202 in front of the Bakehouse. He watched as a woman slowly backed into his car. No damage. He politely addressed the woman, "you hit my car" She lied "no I didn't " my husband stated "I watched you hit my car" she again lied "no I didn't. I was watching my camera." He reiterated "I watched you back into my car" she then stated "maybe I did" She lied repeatedly. That's what gets us both. The lie. There was no damage. Hands down one of the best bakeries in CT (and maybe in the tri state area). Such a hidden gem hidden under a restaurant right in the center of Litchfield. We only stumbled on them because they provided samples of cookies at one of the shops on the green (so smart!). We started with cookies, pies, and bread. All delish. Then this weekend I needed last minute birthday cake. Thank God they had a few on hand Saturday morning. I grabbed a 6-inch vanilla. The buttercream was outstanding. The cake so moist. Not too sweet. Four perfect layers. Easily fed 6 people with larger slices (excellent value). Can’t wait to order a custom cake next. All our guests loved the dessert...
