The wife and I went here last night with the kiddos in tow as our usual hibachi (Shoji) was over an hour wait. Our fault for not planning ahead. This place was about 25-30 minutes so we waited. Once we got in it was packed. Our server came to the table to take our drink orders and came back about five minutes later. He said he’d be back to take our orders and we watched the table across from us get their whole meal cooked while we waited.
We ordered and another fifteen or so minutes passed and the same chef from the other table came to ours to get started. During that time I had to run the boys to the restroom, and it’s just past the kitchen curtain. As I approached, the smell of funk and nastiness hit me and I hoped that it was coming from one of the bathrooms. Part of it was for sure. The bathrooms were gross and the mirror was busted and Scotch taped together. Even my seven year old said he didn’t want to use the bathroom because it was gross smelling. I repeated this with the second kiddo and about that time the chef was starting.
He was personable and good with the kids. He managed to overcook the steaks most of us ordered (I order rare so I usually end up medium to medium rare). I was born in Japan and spent many years in Japan and know exactly what Kobe beef is and truly miss it sometimes. So I ordered Kobe. Most of it was semi tough, medium- medium rare, and didn’t have any of the fat cut off. It was definitely a better cut from the ny strip everyone else went with but I’ll go out on a limb and say it wasn’t Kobe. And if it was ... well... not good. He burned the scallops for one guy and the lady on the other side was complaining about how tough and overdone her steak was to her husband. It wasn’t just us.
I had one drink and decided that was a mistake and went to a soft drink instead. The bill was $120 for the four of us, and the server seemed short and rarely came around. The experience was significantly lower quality than I remember when we went a couple years ago . Maybe it was a fluke? I don’t know but the smell near the kitchens and bathrooms made me seriously rethink returning. Your experience may vary as I remember it being good the last time a couple years back. We go to Shoji nearby and have been...
Read moreThis is the only Teppan/hibachi restaurant I've been to that doesn't have a noodle and chicken entree on their menu. They have a chicken entree and a noodle entree but don't have a chicken and noodle entree. I asked the waiter if I can have the teriyaki chicken and add noodles to it but he said the noodle is a separate entree. I told him I know that it's separate but I'm asking if they can just add noodles to the chicken and mix it together. He refused and said they would only make them separate.
I don't understand why any restaurant will refuse to serve you an item that's on their menu. Given that my table has a dedicated chef, I especially don't understand why they couldn't just add some noodles to it. It's really offensive when a restaurant does that.
The soup and salad were OK. The salad dressing was good but it was served on iceberg lettuce, which is the type of lettuce that I don't expect any restaurant to still be serving anymore.
After we ordered, there was a very long wait before the chef showed up. It was around 40 minutes from the time we ordered until they started cooking.
The chef was very good. Lots of fire tricks and that type of thing. The rice and food were very good - cooked correctly and well seasoned. The vegetable portion was extremely small. Most other places give you a whole plate of vegetables. I got maybe 1 cup of vegetables (by volume), which is hardly enough. I did, however, get a big portion of fried rice and chicken, so overall I had enough food.
For the 2 hours we were there, the waiter only one time came to check on us after taking the orders.
Prices were reasonable and the same or lower than other similar...
Read moreTried to come here for dinner on Father's Day 2019. We were a party of 2. We checked in and the hostess informed us that there was a five minute wait while the table was being cleaned. A few minutes later a party of 5 checked in with no reservation, I know this because I overheard their conversation as they walked into the restaurant and with the hostess. This party of five came and sat next to us in the waiting area. Within minutes they were called to be seated. We approached the hostess as to why they were seated first and he mumbled something about the table had room for them. He goes on to state that if we still wanted Hibachi we could wait until another table was cleaned or better yet dine at the bar since the food was the same as that at the hibachi table. I do not know if it was racism or not since the family seated before is was European or if they felt bigger family meant more revenue for their business. Either way I can promise you I will never have to consider either option again when dealing with Kobe in Frisco. Neither myself nor my family will be dining here again. I will also make sure my friends understand my feelings on your...
