The restaurant itself is very beautiful! Went there yesterday and dined in at around 5. The place was packed and had steady traffic, but the staff seemed very overwhelmed.
Our server was very sweet, but seemed very inexperienced and did not know the menu well. Which is understandable and expected, but it seems like management did prepare the staff well. He checked in frequently which was great. He was a bit pushy when it came to getting us to leave, and asked to just take a card before even giving us the check.
There were a few unavailable items and the server did not know they were unavailable until after we ordered them. I asked for them a few times when they didn’t come out, and he had to let me know that they had ran out, after confidently saying that they were in stock. I understand that they were not expecting to be that busy and to run out of food, but management should let staff know when items are out or expect to not seat as many guests if there is not enough stock in the back.
The staff were running around and would physically run around customers. I know this is picky, but as someone who works in a restaurant, this is a pretty big no no. It was just unprofessional and did not make me feel like I was giving this restaurant my money to dine at, it made me feel more like a NPC that just existed while the staff ran around. While I do acknowledge they were having a hard day, it just shows that management did not do a great job training the staff.
The restaurant was stuffy and not well ventilated. Could have just been the humid weather, but it’s not something I have experienced at other hot pot establishments.
Overall, I would come back in a couple months time to let them get settled. The food was very good and I really enjoyed the soup bases they had. It was among my favorite hot pot places in...
Read moreI was excited to try this place now that it is finally open. The restaurant itself was clean and had nice decor. The tables had plenty of room for all of the plates and utensils you would use, but I found the underside of the tables to be very uncomfortable- there is a large block that houses the equipment and it made it so that I needed to hold my feet at an awkward angle the entire meal, and getting up was made difficult as well.
The food was very good. It was fresh, good portions, and flavorful. The beef butter base may be one of my favorite hot pot bases I’ve tried yet.
Serviced unfortunately needs some work. Our server was attentive and friendly, but we did have to ask more than once to get our drinks. No big deal, it happens. Food did come quickly from the kitchen, but we found that it often was not what we ordered. Literally three separate food orders came out that weren’t what we ordered. This wasn’t a big deal because we would eat pretty much anything, but it was a bit of a disappointment when we thought we were ordering one thing and got something else instead.
Further, the grill plate for our BBQ was getting a bit nasty and I had hoped they would come around to swap it out. They didn’t, but we were able to cook anyway. One of the staff came around and asked us (insisted, actually) to switch out our plate as we were the middle of cooking. I’m not sure why she couldn’t have waited until we were done actively cooking. Towards the end, another server came and just took my drink from me. It was half full and I guess they determined that I was finished.
Overall, good food, service has some kinks to iron out. Would I go back? Probably yes, but after a few months for them to get...
Read moreWent in earlier tonight and this is what I have to say about the place.
The quality of the meats and fish are good, better than Kpot in Kearny/union. Unfortunately though they do not have beef tongue or baby octopus as a bbq option (only hot pot).
Also, the spicy options on the menu all tasted like they were using too much cumin (lack of variety).
One other thing is that the pictures on the menu do not depict what the actual food looks like. I actually confronted who I thought might be a manager about this (the spicy beef belly came out looking like bulgogi). He did inform me that it was indeed the beef belly and he also apologized for it not looking like the picture on the menu.
I did enjoy my experience overall, and I did enjoy the food. If I could give the owner any advice it would be this:
The ordering system is bad. Other Kpot places allow you to place orders on tablets located at each seated table. I recommend this style since the customer does not have to wait on a busy server to place their orders and the server can focus on other tasks.
Try to have the pictures and the food that comes out look the same. Aside from the example I listed above, the spicy calamari looks like baby octopus in the picture. Furthermore, you also have spicy squid as another option on the menu, calamari is squid, so I’m not sure how these dishes are really different.
Add beef tongue and baby octopus to the bbq section. I know this is just a personal request really, but I think they are great bbq options. Especially the tongue, that is a staple of many Korean bbq restaurants.
Again, I think the experience was overall a positive one and I am sure I will...
