Horrible Experience! Let me just say I’ve been a customer of Segovia Steakhouse since 2015 and would occasionally eat here for lunch or early dinner when I worked in the Little Ferry area. My family decided to bring me here to celebrate my Birthday since they seen reviews from TikTok about the food. Let me start first with reservations; I called a few days prior to reserve a table for 5 people for the man on phone to say they do not take reservations on Saturday. We arrive Saturday at 7pm to wait 1hr to be seated to then see not 1,2,3, but 4 other people walk in with a reservation! I kindly asked lady at front desk if there was a reservation party limit for Saturday… she advised yes, reservation of 5 or more can be taken for Saturday evening. I told her I called a few days prior and a man told me no reservations at all on Saturday. We finally were seated at 8:05pm. Our waiter who’s name I don’t remember came to table and took our drinks, appetizers, and dinner order. We ordered two items we seen from TikTok which was I believe the appetizer with garlic shrimp, fried calamari, and sausage and an entree that was a stuffed lobster tail with house crabmeat stuffing. The rest of choices we ordered off menu which was Chilean sea bass w/ spinach and shrimp and twin stuff lobsters. The appetizer came to table in 17 minutes, it was a lot of food on plate but tasted unrewarding, the calamari and sausage was overcooked and garlic shrimp had no flavor. Our entrees arrived much later at 9:23pm and we knew right away something was not right. We told the runner who brought our food out that we didn’t receive the stuffed lobster tail but instead received a whole stuffed lobster. When our waiter was notified by the runner of our issue our waiter took 4 minutes to come to our table. Once he arrived and we notified him we received wrong food he said the lobster tail is not on menu… we were shocked because we showed him by phone on TikTok what we wanted to order for entree much earlier and to be frank there were three other tables around us that had stuffed lobster tail. We didn’t want to make a big issue about food since it took 1 hr to reach the table. My entree which was the Chilean sea bass was not even cooked, it was just seared quickly on each side but raw in the middle. Chilean sea bass is my favorite fish and this is first time I didn’t enjoy it. I ordered a side of crabmeat stuffing and after receiving it I wish I hadn’t. Stuffing tasted only of bread crumbs and no crabmeat but for some reason my stuffing was Burnt on the bottom. After telling waiter about burnt stuffing and receiving wrong entree he was not willing to make it right.I was ready for the check to leave. This place as popular as it is for my experience was not great and as a customer going years back I will not be coming back. I’ve eaten Portuguese food that’s tastes a lot better and better service for what I...
Read moreFood was excellent and there was a large portion too! The reason this restaurant got 3 stars is because of the food, the portion size, and because the bus boy (or a other server) was very attentive. However the rest of the staff was not as friendly and the bathroom was very dirty (used pads just thrown on the bathroom floor).
Detailed information here: Our waiter only took our order and then appeared to bring us the check. I believe it was the bus boy who the most attentive to our table because he would refill the drinks and asked if we needed anything. We had a good time because of him. I thought HE was our server till the other guy brought us the check and said he hoped we enjoyed.. I even made a comment to the server saying oh I haven't seen you all night and his reply was "well I am busy"... on a night during the week where the tables were literally empty. We were contemplating on how we can leave a tip to the bus boy because honestly we wanted all of the tip to go to him and not the server. I expect excellent service wherever I go, not someone who just shows up to take my order and then present the check. For that, I could've ordered take-out and saved myself the hassle. I really hope the tips are shared there.
As stated earlier, it was empty in the restaurant but someone lady kept walking over and asking if she can clear the table when our appetizer was just placed on the table! We literally did not have a chance to even try the appetizer yet. It was very annoying because we just got the appetizer, it wasn't even touched yet. After our dinner was served, she circled twice asking if we're finished even when we just had a bite. After the 2nd visit, 2 of us eventually said yes, but one of my friends said NO and kept her plate there so she can continue eating. Believe it or not, my friend was asked 3 more times if she could move clear her plate. My friend got upset an said "I'm still eating here, I'll let you know when I'm done!". Finally she gave in and had them wrap it up. I finished my dinner when I got home... a place where I was comfortable eating, not being hawked.
So, I can understand a very busy Friday or Saturday night, but during the week, with a bunch of empty tables, I do NOT expect to be rushed and I certainly don't expect the server to only visit our table twice, to take the order and then to present the check. Again, kudos to the chef and his team and I believe the super friendly and attentive bus boy or maybe he was another server... but they are the main reason for the 3 stars. I WILL go back on another night to see how the service is, but as far as this visit goes, well, this is my honest review for a first...
Read moreAfter hearing about Segovia's reputation, I finally had the chance to eat at this Northern New Jersey staple.
This restaurant exudes 'old school elegance.' It definitely has that same opulent feel as a steakhouse straight out of 1990, but in the best way ever. You know what I'm talking about! Dark wood, dim lights, waiters wearing the same uniforms - I honestly appreciate it. To be fair, the service here was nothing short of spectacular, and it matched the energy and feel of this place.
For a Friday afternoon, there were quite a few people in Segovia. My friend and I decided to sit at the bar for a more casual dining experience. The area was small, and because it is COVID, they had dividers up directly at the bar, so only parties of two could sit at the actual bar. However, they did have a few high tops that could accommodate up to four people.
Segovia's menu is extensive, but as this is the steakhouse, there was a focus on cuts of beef. It appears that Segovia offers a daily special menu in addition to their regular menu. Several of the items on the special menu are similar to the items on the regular menu, only at a lower price point.
My absolutely favorite cut of beef is a ribeye, and Segovia had a few cuts to choose some. I opted for the 16 oz ribeye with garlic, and it came with their typical sides - yellow rice, potato chips, and steamed veggies. I do agree with one Yelper on here that said their veggies were on the bland side - they could definitely benefit from a little butter, garlic, or sauce. My friend opted for the Segovia platter, which has a little bit of everything - chorizo, pork, chicken, and a small filet of beef. For the price, there was A LOT of food on the platter!
The food was very good, however, the chef totally killed my steak. I'm a medium rare girl, and the steak was cooked at a medium well. I didn't send it back, although the waiter offered to take it, but the staff did try to make up for it by accommodating us all night.
We finished our meal with dessert - creme brulee for me, and flan for my friend. The cream brulee, while small, was delicious - better then the flan, in my opinion! They have lots of yummy desserts to choose from.
Overall, my first experience at Segovia was extremely pleasant, and I look forward to coming back here. I'll give them another chance to cook my steak to...
