Friends and neighbors have for some time now urged me to try Hill Station. It's in my neighborhood and I pass it frequently, but somehow until today, when friends we were meeting for lunch suggested we meet there, I hadn't tried it. I enjoyed the lunch there. Our wait person could not have been nicer and more helpful, a real gem. This was in contrast to the person who greeted me when I walked in, the first of the party, who made eye contact with me but then resumed talking to someone else, never saying he'd be right with me. It's really important to let customers, especially new ones, know they're seen and welcomed. I like the airiness of the spacious inside dining room. The high ceilings with "breaks" (rectangles) in them seem designed to cut down on noise, and I found the place refreshingly quiet, an easy place to carry on a four-way conversation. The high windows letting in lots of light are another nice touch. The food: a mixed bag, we thought. My spouse's Reuben was good, he said. My club sandwich had too much bread (I know: club sandwich) — thickly sliced bread. I ended up removing two slices of the bread and eating it as an open-faced sandwich. It was okay, but not the most interesting club I've ever had. The side salad that came with it was enormous, and I ended up taking most of it home. It was good. I also ordered an appetizer of pimento cheese, and it was good, an ample dish of it and lots of slightly toasted baguette slices to go with it. French fries that came with my spouse's sandwich were well-fried and tasty. Hubby's brother says he recently had an outstanding veggie burger there. So my club experience may have been a fluke and exception.... All in all, this is a place I'd recommend. I'm glad to see it occupying the site of a former filling station and car-repair place in the center of the shopping and business part of our neighborhood. I'll recommend it to others.

I visited here for lunch with my sister, when it opened. My sister has an hour for lunch so we were hoping this place would be efficient with it just opening for the day, only 2 other tables, and what seemed like a lot of staff walking around. I ordered the meat & cheese platter and she ordered the club sandwich. The sandwich got out at a decent time but the platter (which is normally served as an app) got out very late. Took around 40 mins to get it. The server was very nice but very soft spoken so it was a little difficult to hear her but when she noticed I hadn't gotten my food she immediately went to go check on it. She came back to inform me that they had to go across the street to get the mustard sauce for the platter and that they're working on it now. By the time it came out, I had to box it up because my sister needed to get back to work. I'm thankful she was able to at least enjoy her lunch. I wouldn't recommend coming here for lunch. Really slow service, very loud environment as they had some sort of machinery running in their outdoor fridge or storage area, and lack of drink refills. Also we were sat at one of the only tables in the patio that had severe paint/metal chipping on it so we kind of avoided putting our arms on the table because if you moved them the wrong way, you will scrap your arm on it. I will probably come back to try the Sunday Brunch, as that had some delicious options but that's about it. For those that want to bring their fur babies, the large outdoor patio is pet friendly (leash required). I'd say only come here in late afternoon/evening and possibly their Sunday Brunch.

Hill Station is a local gem in the Hillcrest area. Solid food, great drink selection and bar menu, and the patio/outdoor seating area is great for Spring and Summer evenings. The only reason I don’t give them 5 stars is because there is sections of their outdoor seating that look great but they’ve never had it open for seating, at least when I’ve been there. Sad to be able to see cool space but no seating due to either short staff or not enough business to keep that section open. Second, I love that Pets are allowed, but my last experience there I was seated next to a lady who’s dog would go crazy at any pedestrian or dog being walked nearby, as it sits next to a street and sidewalk. My recommendation would be to open up the second seating area or a specific section for people with Pets so other people don’t have to be around I’ll behaved pets. Those two things aside, you can’t go wrong at Hill Station and I will keep going there to support great local business!

Three of us went for brunch and there was a 45min wait fifteen minutes after opening. We get seated and do not see our waiter for ten more minutes when he brings waters.

Menu online advertises homemade donuts, but our server tells us they have not carried them since he's been there (also not on the physical copies handed to us). No big deal - we get waffles on the side.

The food takes an hour to come out and we see our waiter for the first time again for our only water refill. The burger I ordered was listed as two patties, but had only a single when it arrived; the breakfast burrito also did not come as advertised, missing the pimento cheese.

We finish up and chat - bus boy takes our dirty dishes. We wait for twenty more minutes after that and do not see our server anywhere. My wife goes to grab him so we can get our check - he has no clue who she is and asks where we are sitting.

He goes back to grab the check and brings it out without splitting for the table (neither he or we asked to be fair).

Food was solid overall and we enjoyed the outdoor patio in nice weather.

TL;DR: 45min wait to sit; 60min wait for food; 20min wait for check; saw server twice entire time for single water refill - he had no...
