City Gourmet — Restaurant in Livonia

Was very excited to try City Gourmet for carry out today. It is difficult to tell that they are open, but they were. They're not getting a lot of traffic yet, so now is a great time to go try it out without a long wait.

Everyone we talked to was very friendly and accommodating.

My daughter ordered the California rolls and my son and I split a poke bowl. This was our first experience with pokey and the person taking our order walked us through every step very patiently. My daughter enjoyed watching her sushi being made. We all loved the food and my daughter declared it the best California roll she's ever had. The poke bowl was very good with just the right amount of delicious sauce and lots of shrimp.

I was very impressed with the atmosphere. Having been to both previous restaurants that occupied this space, I couldn't believe how they completely transformed it without doing any structural changes. I feel sad, but obligated to share - not to dissuade people from trying this place out, but to hopefully help improve what could be something decent to finally do well in this building.

Food: not palatable. I spit it out & threw it away. I do not recommend the steak. If “steak & sushi” is in your title, those should be the star. My steak was…off. Spoiled tasting & way under cooked. I did order med-rare, which should be pink in the middle.

Service: accommodating & willing to fix the issue. Offered to remake my meal. They did not offer my money back, but I also did not ask. I felt too bad even calling up there. I opted out of remaking my steak, it didn’t make sense if the meat was “off”, it would be the same outcome.

Portion vs Cost: a little on the high side - $53 & $30 went into the trash.

I do not believe I will return.

I wouldn’t have thought to write a review even if the food was bad. I couldn’t eat the sushi because the rice was undercooked, and the steak was really tough. If you order a steak, you will only get the steak—no side dishes. No vegetables, no fries, nothing—just the steak and sauce. The waiter asked me about the fries, so I said yes because other restaurants usually include fries. But when I got home and looked at the bill, they had charged for the fries.on the menu 9oz steak is $25 but they charge $26 Sushi is $7 on the menu but they charged $7.28 With the small fried that they never tell me about the price is $4.16. Be careful and check the bill before paying.
