West Fenkell Bakery — Restaurant in Livonia

I am truly obsessed with this bakery! When I lived in Livonia, I saw them as an occasional treat. Now I live in Ferndale and I drive 20-30 mins just for their amazing baked goods. The staff at the store is beyond helpful with my dietary restrictions and making sure I can eat anything they recommend. Almost all of their bread is vegan and dairy-free, and all is clearly labeled so I can make non-dairy choices without them if need be!

Today I got a delivery from a friend of mine who knows I broke my (driving) foot over the weekend and have been bummed being stuck in the house. She asked them about dairy free treats and I was amazed to learn they had carrot cake I could eat! Score! I am a little weary of shredded coconut...it's the texture for me.... but this cake is moist and soooo good! I would hardly know it was in there but it adds a nice flavor! The walnuts make it just right. I'm going to eat the whole thing before my husband can get home from work.

My hubby stops there frequently enough that the bakers know him as the guy with the dairy free wife, and he raves about their pizza rolls! They will save some for you if you call ahead! Please don't buy them all or my husband will kill me for revealing his honey hole...

The baker and cash register are so nice! I got lost on the way there and called them panicking and they spoke in such a compassionate and caring way and helped me find my way there. I was dying to try their napoleons for days and when I showed up, they had them on the side for me as a gift because I was lost. It was so touching and thoughtful I wanted to cry. I loved everything about the napoleons, especially the custard and the chocolate, which is really surprising to me because I'm not a huge fun of chocolate at all but I found theirs so delicious! I bought some sweets and cannolis and I'm so glad I did because they're the best I ever had in my life! Wow! The creme, the almonds, the shell, everything about it was perfect and it's so hard for me to find an awesome cannoli that's perfect like that. I've been to so many Italian restaurants, markets, and bakeries and they're nowhere near as good as Fenkell's. They tasted so much better, fresh, and truly authentic-like they were made in Italy instead of Michigan. I immediately recommended this place to my family members and friends and they now know where to find the freshest and best desserts and bread. Not satisfied with our order of a birthday cake.

My significant other order a cake birthday for me with an Ethiopian theme inside cake, and outside frosting. The inside of the cake coloring order is incorrect, as well as the outside frosting with a red, white, and blue flowering finish. The instructions of how the we wanting the cake was given to the Baker themselves, and was agreed upon with both parties. When cake was shown at pickup it was accepted, but was ordered under short notice, and only wanting to have something for the big day. The bakery was notified of the mistake, we were told the baker was already gone and there was nothing that could be done. And apology was given, but we need our monies returned.
