Don't let this small venue fool you. It packs a big punch compared to the other Bigger barbecue joints. Its interior carries a more home-like appeal. I was greeted by the friendly owner Riley. A nice big welcome was a good start. I ordered One of the specials which came with two meats, two sides and a drink. I immediately noticed the proportions which I have to say were impressive. My order included chicken (leg and thigh) and brisket with two sides, one green beans and the other potato salad. To me, sides are just as important as the main course. And I must say that my two sides delivered equal satisfaction to the main course. The brisket was moist and juicy. The outer bark of it was toasted and cooked to perfection. However, my chicken was a bit on the dry side for my taste. I do know that some people like their chicken like that. So a bit of barbecue sauce provided a decent correction. Their sausage was packed with a lot of seasoning. It might have been a little too much seasoning. Their potato salad was, in my opinion, The highlight of the meal. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for more homestyle barbecue. This was my first time trying. Riley's BBQ. I got to talk to him a little at the end. And learned a little more about him. With his welcoming character, I definitely will be returning.

Not my first time at Riley’s. Big fan, not a new customer. That’s why the 3 stars not 1. First, my plate was made and given to another customer. Instead of making me another plate, they got my to go container back from the customer and gave it to us. Second, the meat is inconsistently cut, and dry af. We got 2 brisket plates and a 2 meat plate with chicken & ribs. Meat was not hot, it was chewy and just really not how Riley’s usually is. Third, the beans aren’t cooked all the way and it’s after 1 in the afternoon. The fries taste like crab boil seasoning..at least the corn on the cob was fine. We wasted $60. And it was CLEAR the employees didn’t want to be there today. The boss man looked a bit peeved.

While on a road trip and wanting to try several different BBQ places in Lockhart, we stopped here for a final sampling of Texas BBQ. We were met by the owner and his crew who were very welcoming and eager to show us their products. We ordered brisket, regular and jalapeño cheese sausage, and several sides to go. As Riley was cutting the brisket, he offered us several pieces to sample as he filled our order. The brisket was moist and juicy. I got talking with him about his process of cooking brisket and he took me to his pit to show it to me. Can’t say enough good things about his willingness to share his process to me. Worth a stop if you are in Lockhart.

After reading the reviews and never been to this place, we decided to try it. The reviews spoke highly of this place. When we walked in we noticed that the place was empty ( that should have been the sign for us to leave.) It was odd that the place didn't have any smell of BBQ. We have been to many BBQ restaurants and you can smell the BBQ as soon as you walk in!! We ordered brisket, turkey, and sausage. The sides were beans, potato salad and cole slaw. When we got our plates, the brisket was cold, full of fat, and hard to cut. I remember seeing the person who was taking our order, get the brisket that had been laying on the counter, slicing it, and putting it on our plates. That would explain the cold brisket. The turkey was also cold and very dry. The sausage was so dry and hard that it was hard to chew. The inside fell apart like dry crumbs when we finally were able to cut it. The beans were dry and very salty. The cole slaw and potato salad tasted so bad and tasted nothing like cole slaw or potato salad!! If you closed your eyes while eating it, you would be wondering what you were eating!! Sadly, we took a couple of bites and was all we could take. We were so upset and disgusted that we got up and left. We ended up throwing away full plates of food. Like I mentioned earlier, we have been to many BBQ restaurants and this by far has been the worst place!! We regret going there!! I don't know who wrote those reviews or if they were even legit, but none of them were true of what we encountered. I rarely, if any, write reviews but I had to write this one because I don't want other families to go through the same experience we went through!!! I had to give it a 1 star because it wouldn't let me give it a 0 star. We will never return to...

Top notch service is on full display. After visiting the Spoetzl Brewery we decided to try another BBQ option in Lockhart we hadn't been before. We each had the two special which includes two meats, two sides and a drink for $13.75. A small bowl of brisket nachos sells for $12 at the food stand at the brewery. I chose the brisket and sausage, and giblet rice (highly recommend) and sweet potato for the sides. We had lunch at about 3 pm so we knew that we wouldn't get meats straight from the smoker but it was very well cooked, juicy and the smoke flavor was perfect. I'd also recommend the turkey as it's very tasty and we'll cooked. My favorite was the giblet rice. It is like a mouthful of perfect chicken soup in every bite! We ended the meal with peach cobbler; still hot, which was good but we would've liked if ice cream was served with it as well. Riley's is small and seating is limited but it very much feels and is an old school pit smoke joint. Our service was top notch. The wonderful ladies and gentleman made sure we did not want for anything. I rarely see genuine smiles and pride from big name, chain restaurants or even the proprietor or management taking the time to check on every customer. At Riley's the feel is true blue, down-home Texas hospitality. I absolutely give Riley's a seal of approval. The BBQ scene in Texas is booming and while there are big names, new places and many options the old-school mom & pop should not be forgotten. Great service, delicious meats, many options for sides and a slower pace make Riley's a definite must...

Shout out to Riley he is the 1 making superb pit bbq. My husband and myself just ate there for dinner yesterday. A warm and family welcoming is what you will receive when you arrive. Riley is always smiling. Matter of fact he and his staff are Friendly, positive, and all smiles and always making sure everything you are eating is of your approval and that you are content. We chose to dine in for our first trip. Something we will return for soon indeed! It is like being at your home away from home. Just the atmosphere and the Delicious Ample food served along with all of the many different options of their tasty sides. That sweet tea was perfectly sweetened. The brisket was scrumptious as was their bbq sauce. The potato salad is my newly favorite (besides my own) and had my taste buds curious as to all the love and ingredients put into it. My apologies for no pictures, my husband and I believe in no cell phones at the dinner table. I left with a food baby in my tummy lol (inside joke) I am not pregnant just a certain something said when the food is more than superior and the belly is perfectly satisfied; Thank you again Riley enjoyed the conversation, appreciate you taking the time out of your day to come to our table while we were there, not many places anymore one can go and speak to the pit master and creator. We left with leftovers as he makes sure you will be full and fed and satisfied prior to departure. ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Sincerely,...
