I was excited to try the new Indian restaurant in town. Upon walking in, the decor and atmosphere is wonderful. It is a dramatic change from the previous establishments that have existed in this space, and feels more luxurious than many of the other eateries in this plaza.
The wait staff seems to still be getting their legs under them after recently opening, but are generally friendly - if not edging on too helpful throughout the meal.
Our meal began with the Pakora and Vegetable Samosa appetizers.
The Pakora was incredibly salty, and was not crunchy. It had been fried, but was soggy and had no crunch that I was looking forward to.
The Samosa was rather bland. The Samosa outer shell was flaky and had a good crunch to it, but fell apart easily when trying to use the tamarind and mint sauces provided for dipping.
The lentil soup was served in a very tiny bowl, and unfortunately had very little taste. It was incredibly thin and watery and had a early taste of lemon, but beyond that it was bland.
The Naan had great crunch and was a wonderful density, but unfortunately the plain had no flavor and the garlic had no flavor with a bit of raw garlic flavor.
The Vegetable Korma wasn't bad, but it wasn't as rich as I've come to expect from other experiences. The potato wasn't fully cooked, but the cashews were a nice addition to the ingredients.
The rice was simple, but well cooked, and had a light taste of anise (a light licorice flavor), which was a nice touch.
Admittedly, when ordering our waiter asked if we wanted 'mild, medium or hot' - and I assumed this was the spice level, not how 'rich' the food might be. Perhaps I mistook the question and ordered all the food as mild.
The food is, unfortunately, disappointing - especially for how much it costs. Our meal consisting of 2 appetizers, a very small soup and one entree ended up costing $50. We had no drinks, no dessert and shared the entree.
Honestly, I'm hopeful this place makes it. Although our experience wasn't wonderful (with regards to the food), I'm hopeful it's just the restaurant starting up and figuring out their recipes. Beyond that, the value for the cost doesn't seem to make sense. I don't think Indian food should be cheap, but if you're charging these prices, at least let the food, both in amount and taste, be up to par.
I'm also willing to accept we have ordered the wrong items - the chicken a table near us received looked lovely. I've often felt if a restaurant can do well with lentil soup and naan, the rest of their items are likely wonderful.
If you enjoy Indian food and want a slightly more upscale experience, it's worth trying. I'm hopeful your experience is...
Read moreI found two black hairs in my food. I think they were beard hairs. I just picked them out and didn't mention it to anyone, as I didn't want it to ruin it for my girlfriend. Honestly, if I wasn't so impressed initially with the overall look of the restaurant, I'd probably have complained had I known how the experience was going to go from there.
I came her with my girlfriend a few weeks back. We eat a lot of Indian food, (she's indian) and have tried most of the local places. When we first came in, we were very impressed by how clean, and trendy the dining room appeared. We started with some naan. The naan was less than stellar. It was more like a cracker than with some garlic butter on top than what you'd traditionally expect from garlic naan. Although we weren't impressed with the naan, we went on to order butter chicken, and chicken tikka masala. The chicken was very moist and tender, and the sauce was pretty good too. However, the rice was pretty dry. Overall I'd give the food 3 stars. (Ignoring the hairs in my food, and assuming that was a fluke.) Normally I'd be fine with this quality, but the price really made it not worth it. We ended up paying $50 for only one appetizer, and 2 entries. No drinks, no dessert. Bottom line is that this place is way over priced for average food. Go to Delhi Palace where you can get a buffet with better food, more variety, with drinks Naan, and dessert included, all for less than this place. Honestly, I won't be coming back. I kinda felt like...
Read moreMy family of 6 and I came in to Gandhi for some delicious curry. We had:
Aloo tikki (good)
Masala fries (good)
Chicken coconut curry (AMAZING!) (tender and juicy chicken— my favorite!!
Butter chicken (AMAZING!) again tender and juicy chicken and the spices oh my goodness
Plain naan (good)
Aloo naan (uhhhhh—- mazinggg!!!) crispy naan filled with hot and soft potato on the inside. I would come back JUST for these.
Mango lassi (good) my son didn’t want to share his.
Our server was very attentive with water refills. Our food came out hot and fresh in a timely manner. My four picky children had to be stopped from licking their plates because they loved the curry so much. The restaurant was beautiful and clean. There was warmth and laughter all around. We will definitely return for their tandoori chicken and coconut curry and butter chicken and their delicious naan that was stuffed with potato and spices. Our bill wasn’t outrageous for a family of six. It was under $80 for all of us. We will definitely return. Please give this place a try. You won’t be disappointed!! IMO— best Indian food since Clay oven from San Bernardino (the one from 10 years ago). Best Indian food in San...
