As a mom of a soon-to-be four-year-old with severe dairy, egg, and tree nut allergies (which cause anaphylaxis), finding quality vegan bakery items has been incredibly challenging. We’ve tried vegan offerings from bakeries all over San Diego, Orange County, and LA, but none have come close to the quality of this bakery.

Although they aren’t an entirely vegan bakery, they offer vegan options such as cookies and cakes — and they are truly the best we’ve ever had. The staff is extremely helpful and genuinely wants to make sure you get exactly what you need, which makes the experience even better. This year marks the third year I’m ordering my daughter’s birthday cake from them, and I plan to continue coming back year after year — and even in between birthdays — for their vegan treats.

Usually, when you buy a vegan item from a bakery, you can immediately tell it’s vegan — the taste or texture tends to be just slightly off. I always appreciate when bakeries make the effort to offer vegan options, but it’s something special when a bakery can create vegan desserts that taste just as good as traditional ones. The first time we tried their vegan cake, my husband was convinced I must have ordered a regular cake by mistake because it tasted so good!

You can tell this bakery uses extremely high-quality ingredients and makes everything from scratch. In fact, there have been times when I’ve paid more at other bakeries for vegan cakes that didn’t even come close to the quality this bakery provides.

If you’re looking for a vegan cake, cupcake, or cookie — whether it’s for a birthday, a holiday, or just a get-together — this is absolutely the place to go. Even if you don’t have food allergies and are vegan by choice (or even if you’re not vegan at all), I highly recommend trying their vegan offerings. They are truly outstanding.

I have been a loyal of this local bakery for a few years now. The owner/pastry chef makes pastries that not only TASTE incredible, but are made with ingredients that are honestly as good /healthy for us as pastries can ever get!!

I used to walk my dog here almost daily to get my regular dosage of her AMAZING chocolate chip cookies. WARNING: once you have one of her chocolate chip cookies you may not want one from anywhere else again. 😆

Recently and newly diagnosed with celiac disease, I am a newbie in this gluten-free world (and slightly depressed), so you can imagine my excitement when I googled "gluten free pastries" and Cara Mia popped up!! I had totally forgotten that her specialty is making these tasty treats gluten free and/or vegan!!

While I could not get my previous favorites, I took the owners recommendations for gluten-free treats, as well as a couple others for my better half (who's also a giant kid at heart lol) and well, you can see his reaction.

Orange herb cake - GLUTEN FREE, extremely MOIST and just a perfect balance between richness, sweetness, and indulgence, matched with light fruit flavors to balance it out.

Cookies and cream cupcake - we have yet to dive in, but I feel good getting this for my partner bc I'm SURE the ingredients are much better than the processed Oreos he inhales... lol.

Marshmallow brownie - GLUTEN FREE and yet does not taste "healthy" in any way lol. The dark chocolate balances out the marshmallows and the crunch of each bite completes me.

Pop tart - Ok, this is not good enough for you but I had to take a bite of this. Totally worth whatever flare-ups I'll get... this is probably my #1 recommendation!!!!

Having a child with allergies is not easy! However, The Trim Tart saved the day by baking a special dairy and egg free cake for my sweet girls 3rd birthday. Their prices are extremely affordable. The cakes are delicious, and the customer service is top notch! Seeing my daughter eat cake for the first time, was actually pretty emotional. I had shared my concern with Marcy when placing my order in regards to my daughters severe allergies and she made sure that she and the rest of the staff, did absolutely everything possible to ensure that my daughter can enjoy her cake without any risks. The precautions they took, the excitement they also shared to know that my daughter could finally enjoy cake, meant absolutely everything!! I wish I would’ve found this bakery sooner!! To all my mamas who are afraid to introduce allergens especially for a 1st bday, I highly recommend The Trim Tart. (Side note: I received a quote elsewhere for this exact cake for $250. However at TrimTart, I was able to get this cake and amazing customer service for under $50.)
