I did initially put a 1 star but because I do love their food and the atmosphere, I am putting a 2.
I was born and raised on the central coast (Lompoc) and have been to Charlie’s more times than I could ever count or add up in bank statements. Today, 6/23/24 - marks the day I won’t ever go back & I’ll tell you why.
Myself and my girlfriends ride motorcycles and we were on a motorcycle ride from Los Olivos to Santa Maria. The temperature was 96 degrees and I really needed to use the bathroom. I knew Charlie’s had a bathroom and supported bikers so we stopped for no more than 2 min so I could use the bathroom. I wasn’t even 2 feet out of the bathroom when the lady behind the counter said, “can I take your order?”. I said, “I’m so sorry we didn’t come here to eat, just use the bathroom but I love your food!” Her response was, “Well make sure you use a gas station next time, that’s only for customers!”.
I am a customer, and I’ve been a customer for 30+ years. The customer service I got in that moment of time has rubbed me so wrong that I will never go back, nor my friends. We bring in tons of business from out of state and have always incorporated Charlie’s as a staple on...
Read moreI don't know who the hater lying about planted reviews is, but he/she's obviously got a grudge. Did it anonymously too, that should tell you something.
My husband and I spent last weekend in Los Alamos for the first time; we met up with a group of about 60 people celebrating a birthday milestone of a friend of ours. We had breakfast at Charlie's all three days. I doubt we would have gone back if it was bad in any way.
Charlie's is a road stop type restaurant and does most of the business I saw as take-out. It's down-home and doesn't try to be anything else. There is a very small interior seating area, which we did not use, and a large outside patio with tables, umbrellas and plastic chairs. There's a bubbling fountain and mural. Both servers were very friendly and on top of their game. The food we got was very good: Biscuits and gravy(made with big chunks of bacon, it sold out the third day), Machaca(shredded) beef scramble, chili verde and rib-eye steak. I didn't hear any complaints any of the times we went. We loved the salsa and bought 12 ounces of it to bring...
Read moreStopped into town at 9am on a Sunday morning, this was the ONLY place in town open and we were not disappointed. It was an old guy working the counter (Charlie?) and he was very helpful and kind. I asked how messy the biscuits and gravy would be in the car and he offered to put them in a different container to make it easier. I order a full order and a cot chocolate for my 9 y/o daughter and a breakfast burrito for myself. Hand sanitizer was available at the window. We waited about 10-15 minutes for our food. He handed a huge hot chocolate to my daughter with a huge dollop of whipped cream on top. The biscuits and gravy were hands down the best I have ever had. Huge chunks of bacon in them. Perfect gravy/biscuit ratio, extremely savory. 10/10. My burrito was very good as well.
We couldn’t be happier with the service and will make a point to stop again next time we are passing though. (Easy on/off access when S/B on 101). About $24 total for our order. Sounds a bit high but I will happily...
