Title: A Southern Gem: True South Johnny Rebs Delights with Hospitality and Flavor
This past weekend, I had the pleasure of visiting Long Beach to spend time with my daughter and catch the Grand Prix of Long Beach IndyCar race. Following the thrilling event, hunger led us to explore local dining options before our journey back to the airport. When asked for my preference, I mentioned a craving for barbecue, a cuisine I hadn't enjoyed in quite some time. My daughter swiftly conducted a Google search, leading us to the delightful discovery of "True South Johnny Rebs" restaurant.
From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted warmly by Matt, who swiftly seated us and assumed the role of our attentive server. His genuine hospitality set the tone for an exceptional dining experience. With efficiency and enthusiasm, Matt guided us through the menu, offering insightful recommendations that perfectly complemented our preferences.
The portions were generous, and every bite burst with delicious flavor. As someone hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area, I couldn't help but marvel at the authenticity and quality of Southern-style cuisine offered at True South Johnny Rebs. It was a culinary experience that exceeded our expectations, leaving us feeling incredibly fortunate to have stumbled upon such a gem.
However, what truly left a lasting impression was the unparalleled level of hospitality we received. Matt and the staff went above and beyond to ensure our satisfaction, creating an atmosphere of warmth and genuine care that elevated our dining experience to new heights.
In summary, True South Johnny Rebs is more than just a restaurant—it's a testament to Southern hospitality and culinary excellence. I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment to anyone seeking not only exceptional food but also an unforgettable dining experience. Whether you're a local or just passing through, be sure to pay a visit to True South Johnny Rebs for a taste of Southern...
Read moreSo first I want to start off by saying I've been coming to this place for over 20 years. I've brought many family members to this place. And also friends, I don't know what they did to their menu. But you can tell that this business is doing very poorly being that I have managed restaurants myself. The waitress came over to my table and said, be careful. This fried chicken just came fresh out of the fryer. I was very angry because in my line of vision was the kitchen and I saw where the cook had microwaved it. I went in around lunchtime between noon and 1 o'clock. There was only 2 other people in the restaurant. I have bragged about this place for over twenty years.Even in other states, if you're ever in california visit johnny rebs i would say. The only thing that was good was the size Cajun, rice and beans. But as you see, it's in a styrofoam container. Which we know not to put hot food in, but anyways. The bones in the chicken were black. Which indicates that chicken had either been sitting a long time and or was refrigerated from the day before and reheated my best guess. And I'm probably right. I noticed the menu was a lot of sandwiches and bowls.Which they're using leftovers and selling it at a high price. No, quality in the food anymore. Well, cutting corners and charging prices for bad food. When I could have went to any fast food chain and probably got a better meal for cheaper is outrageous and purely diabolical. This is how you lose a loyal customer. I have came to this place since my son was a little boy and I drive from miles away just for the...
Read moreBreaks my heart to leave this review as this place was one of my favorites all throughout my childhood. When we arrived there were only 3 other tables seated, so none of this can be chocked up to them being busy.
I ordered the fried catfish caesar. What came out was blackened catfish. The server asked me if it was OK, and as I was thinking about whether my stomach could handle blackened (I have issues with Cajun seasoning) he set my plate down with a resounding "it's OK" and walked away. I was stunned.
My fiance got the two meet combo. The brisket had zero salt flavor and was incredibly dry. The tritip was literally sliced like deli meet. Razor thin, and just as dry as the brisket. The biscuit that came with her meal was dry, and looked straight out of the can. Definitely not the big fluffy biscuits I remember.
After having our food dropped, we were ignored for the rest of the night. It was obvious that our server didn't want to ask us how our food was to avoid me saying the blackened catfish wasn't really doing it for me. No further refills, no asking if I wanted a 2nd beer (which I did). We had to ask for our check, and when our server (who I'm pretty sure was the manager, they didn't appear to have any dedicated servers) took my credit card, he didn't say a single word to us.
Needless to say.... Yikes. This was probably my 30th time coming here. First time in a few years though, and it seems like it's gone completely down hill. Will be hard to justify...
