Portofino Pizzeria & Deli — Restaurant in Long Beach

Went here based on reviews for some spaghetti and pizza. The pizza was good, we ordered an XL half cheese/half pepperoni pizza. The older gentleman on the phone was super sweet and helpful and most importantly, patient with my questions since I have never been here before. I ended up ordering a family special and paid the extra funds to make the large pizza and XL pizza. It came with a half loaf of garlic bread (loaf equals half of French roll) and a 1/2 size order of spaghetti and meat sauce. It was $35, but $4 extra for the XL pizza. The food was presented very hot and fresh. Made to order. We drove home, about 20 minutes away, and the food was still hot. The pizza is very thin crust, but filling. The dough has a slight, salty taste, but still good. The sauce is good too. The pepperoni was crispy on the edges. The spaghetti and meat sauce was tasty. Spaghetti was a bit soft, but still good. I would definitely return to order again. This place is way better and tastier than the silly pizza chains they shove down our throats, so spend the few extra dollars if you can. There is a lot to like about this place. Usually when a restaurant is not busy during peak hours it is not a good sign, but I stopped in for lunch anyway and I am glad that I did. I ordered the sausage and peppers sandwich and a drink. My brother ordered the torpedo sandwich and a drink. Both sandwiches were filled with generous portions and fresh, high quality ingredients and the bread was crusty on the outside, soft inside and delicious. The drinks were serve yourself and in a real glass not a paper cup. Wine is an option, but it was a bit early for me. Wow! I wandered in here about a month-and-a-half ago on a Friday night hungry on my way home from a meeting. I looked up and caught them at a time when they could spend some time and go over the menu with me. I make it a point now stopping in there every Friday night for dinner. Have been joined by a friend who equally has enjoyed every meal we have had. Last night was fantastico! Eggplant Parmesan like I have never known it before, two links Italian sausage with red sauce pasta with a pink sauce.
