I tried once more to make a reservation for two at 5 p.m. to watch the World Series, Dodgers vs. Yankees. This was stupid of me because I had a negative experience at this so called "sports bar" before. Who builds a sports bar, so some tables cannot see the sports on their T.V.s? stupid. I stopped going here for about a year and started going again recently since I live so close. I use to spend substantial money in this establishment, but was so put off by the inexplicable way they handle their reservations I stopped coming. I arrived at 5 p.m. when the game was starting. There were six open tables for two people. However, two of the tables were positioned against the wall under a T.V., so you cannot see it. The other four tables were empty. When I arrived the reception told me the only table she had was where i could not see a T.V. I pointed out that there were four open table for two people, why was she going to seat me at a table where I could not see a T.V. She pointed to one of the open tables and said it was reserved for 6:30 p.m.. I asked about the other three and she said they were reserved for later times also. I asked why can't I have the table now, because my reservation was for 5 pm, and the other reservation for 6:30 pm was 1 1/2 hours after the game started. The reservation system they use is Open-table, so you do not reserve a particular table, the 6:30 reservation was not for a particular table, same as me. The acting manager named Mike came over and told me why I could not have the table was because it was for a reservation for six and they were going to push the tables together. Mike quickly dropped this lie because it made no sense. This was obviously a lie because four people were already sitting next to the empty table for two, it was not true that there was some reservation for six. Mike then shifted to the ridiculous reason that they had a complicated system, so he understood why I could not have an empty table, but I could not understand because it was too difficult to understand. How insulting, especially since I am a lawyer. I told Mike that I was a lawyer, so I think I can understand complicated reasons, and then he started to flat out refuse to tell me the reason he would not seat me at one of the four empty two person tables. I asked him don't you think as a customer you should tell me the true reason he would not give me an empty table. Mike continued to refuse to provide me a reason for this discriminatory treatment. I told Mike that I was gong to post this incident on yelp and he said he did not care. Obviously, the staff was saving these places for their personal friends and were not honest enough to just admit it. This bar does not treat all its customers equally, and its manager, Mike is very dishonest, because he kept trying to give me B.S. reasons, and then when I kept making his B.S. reasons obviously false, he just refused to tell me a reason and pointed out he did not have to tell me why. This is not a good sports bar because they have tables where you cannot see the sports. I recommend the Firkin Pub, 3411 E Broadway, Long Beach, CA 90803, because I have never had a bad experience there unlike the Eldo.
