The service was horrible like many other reviews stated. They really need to retrain the women with the short hair or to be very honest replace her she is not fit for customer service or server duties.
She basically tried to force us to order 4 items at $30 a piece for 4 people. When I clarified the order we said we didn’t want the bbq portion. She let us know it’s already cooking and we had to have it.
I asked her why was it cooking in the back if this was a kbbq place where they cook in front of you. and she made some random excuse and said we had to have it since they started cooking. I told her she should’ve communicated to us that it wouldn’t be cooked in front of us like a real kbbq experience because they we really wouldn’t have ordered it. She began raising her voice at me and saying I have to take it. I asked her why she was giving an attitude and raising her voice as I was still calm and told her we didn’t want to eat there anymore based on the way she was treating us. She started yelling more and we just left.
We didn’t get any food served to us but she still tried to make us pay. I told her it doesn’t seem like she doesn’t want to serve us and we didn’t want to eat there. So we just left.
They should also fix their menu because it says min 2 orders but you can’t choose different meats to grill it has to be the same one. So why not just make it one order at the price of two. It was very very strange
I’m hoping the food is good. But with that server this business will very quickly go...
Read moreThe Place: It's located in a typical LA plaza with tiny parking and random stores and restaurants. However, what isn't typical, is the fact the place itself is fairly quiet. Club music isn't blaring at 96db. You can ACTUALLY talk to the person across the table in a normal voice. If you, or someone you know has a hearing aid and love KBBQ, please go to Yang San Bak.
The Food: High quality meats and delicious sides. So let's be honest, it doesn't have the best meat, but it does have great meat at a great price. It also has one of dipping sauces ever. Seriously, that red chili sauce is amazing.
The Price: This has one of the best quality to price ratios for a KBBQ place in Koreatown. And their combo/meal includes an alcoholic drink. So this makes the place even more reasonable if you drink but hate having to pay $12 for a bottle of soju.
What I Would Change: So this place isn't as hip or trendy as the other places in KTown. But this has become one of the best overall KBBQ places to go. It isn't as busy or packed as other KBBQ places in the area. It does make me worry if they're making enough business (given the rising rents). But then again, I like that we can go at 7PM and not have to wait until 8PM to finally be seated. So maybe I don't want anything to change...
Read moreAfter a few attempts at other Korean BBQ restaurants on a Saturday night at 8, Yang San Bak was the only one that didn't require a wait. I guess that couldn't have been a good sign.
Three hangry friends and I went with the Combo C (for 3-4 people). For $64.99, you get brisket, rib belly, marinated beef, steak, and a bottle of soju. Between this and all of the banchan dishes, we were stuffed. It was more than enough food. The flavor of the meats and the side dishes were good overall, but some of the cuts were a bit chewy.
Service was lacking. I'm not sure if it's a Yang San Bak thing, or an LA KBBQ thing, but in NYC KBBQ spots, they help you cut up the meats, grill them, switch out your grill plate, and refill your banchan dishes. None of that happened here. We were left to handle our own meats, like peasants. And sadly, our empty banchan dishes went unfilled (waiters were nowhere to be found). I looked over at the couple next to us, and their grill was completely burnt, so it wasn't just our table.
I think next time, I'll get a snack to hold me over and wait it out at the better KBBQ...
