I applied to work at Alfred earlier this spring. Their application is incredibly meticulous- considering the job pays barely more than minimum wage- and includes multiple essays, a résumé upload, a cover letter, etc.
After submitting my application, I was invited to come interview at Alfred Palisades Village. When I arrived on-time for my interview, the manager was incredibly curt and told me "just wait outside, okay?" After twenty minutes alone, she came outside and bragged that she had read my résumé three times and knew a lot about me. One minute into the interview, I made a reference to my leaving for college in the fall (something that is noted in a big, bold font on my résumé.) She immediately ended the interview and said "we're building our brand, so we don't want seasonal employees. We're done here." Either she assumed that the "Chicago" on my résumé was decoration or, more likely, didn't bother to skim the long application she claimed to have read multiple times.
No apology, no proof that Alfred was only looking for longterm employees (I checked the website afterwards and found nothing,) not even an offer to validate the parking ticket that already cost $2 after 20 minutes. She just stood up and left. That's a half-hour out of my way that I will never travel again– for better service just stick to Alfred Brentwood or, quite...
Read moreThe place is clean and the staff is friendly but the reason I went there, the food, is sorely lacking. I think this place is just not for me but others I think will enjoy the trendy and non traditional ingredients. But I'm a kid at heart and I have a sweet tooth. Went here for a light morning bite before a job and the chocolate croissant is what I hope is dark chocolate. Because it wasn't a typical sweet confection, the chocolate flavor was subdued but still had some Sweetness. However I got a hot chocolate and not only do they not do whipped cream they put a tasteless foam on it. The foam I doubt was made with whole milk and it reminded me of a squash flavor. Worse the chocolate is more of an earthy flavor and the whole thing seemed devoid of what I would call a hot chocolate drink. But I probably should've known when they said they use a mocha syrup for hot chocolate. Maybe this place is for ultra vegan, diet with no sugar, form over function, super modern folks. But if so that's wasn't clear from the onset and I wish they had...
Read moreA friend of mine recommended I try Alfred’s and I just so happened to be in the neighbor. What a cute and great coffee shop!!!! I loved the vibes and the friendliness of the staff. I had the pleasure of being assisted by joseph. It was first time there and I wasn’t too sure what to get. I expressed how I’m not a huge coffee drinker and he recommended I try the iced matcha with vanilla and cinnamon. Believe me it did not disappoint! If you’re in the palisades area and looking for a cool refreshing drink, ask for Joseph he’ll point you in the...
