I ordered lunch from them online for a to-go since it was down the street from where boyfriend worked. They have their own private parking lot thank goodness, but parking is still hectic. The spaces are narrow and small, almost impossible to fit two cars in the roadway. Backing out ya probably gonna feel like you're going to reverse rear end the other parked car across from you half way out. That's how narrow the lot is.
The place was popping though and I love the setup, very causal and relaxed. The place overall is kind of small, but cozy feeling though. I'm always a huge fan of patio seating so love the fact that they had one. I ordered the Dr. Yes Omelette (egg whites, baby spinach, avocado, tomato, sauteed onion & mushrooms) $9.00 and the boyfriend ordered their El Chapo Burrito (Egg, Chorizo, Cheddar, mozzarella, Hash-browns, Ranchero) $9.00.
Waited 15 minutes before I drove out, when I got there the food wasn't ready yet. Took another 10 minutes before it was ready. But the food was DELICIOUS. Boyfriend and I both loved our dishes. The omelette was so prettily presented with a orchid flower and a side salad. Although the omelette was on the smaller side, but the fluffy egg whites and very tasty (had great savory flavor) vegetables inside were amazing. Not over or under cooked liked some vegetarian omelettes I've had before. The boyfriend's burrito was also amazing, the chorizo and potatoes were a FANTASTIC combo.
The food was amazing and it was affordable for a location near USC/in DTLA, definitely recommend and a new favorite place. I hope I can come back and dine-in...
Read moreFood was delicious! Which is why I am leaving a rating of 2 stars! But to me the most important aspect of a business is when all the staff are able to provide an excellent customer service with the pleasure of serving everyone that comes across this establishment. From the very beginning, I had high expectations for such a self regarded restaurant that many people of the Los Angeles Area And USC area have spoken so highly about. Unfortunately from the moment I stepped into the line to order my food, the cashier allowed another person to go ahead before me. I would like to think that the cashier was able to see me because I came up to the register and started looking at the menu up above. At that moment after the person I’m front of me was able to cut me in line, Uwe decided to take my order in such a rude and disrespectful manner that it made me feel as if I was the problem to their day. After clearly explaining to Uwe what exactly it was that I wanted, He proceeded to give me attitude and tell me “is that all!” after every thing I ordered. I don’t tend to write bad reports about customer service but this attitude and level of disrespect made me think that it wasn’t a good idea to come check this place out. If I had to enjoy Birds Nest Cafe again, unfortunately I wouldn’t feel comfortable coming into the restaurant in person again, I might still decide to order food through grub hub or Uber eats, but won’t be able to vouch as a place to enjoy a good time with...
Read moreOrdered the Upriser breakfast burrito, French toast, and the Nutella crepes. Burrito got 4 of 5 stars. It's good but I've had better. Too much seasoning was my only complaint. The French toast was delicious and also got 4 of 5 stars. The syrup selection is not great which is why it got only 4 of 5 stars. Sorry but what is French toast without good syrup. Finally the Nutella crepes got 2 of 5 stars. They looked delicious but that's about it. The crepe was pretty bland. Good crepes are light, soft and airy. This crepe was the complete opposite. Do not recommend the crepe. The only thing they got right was the toppings or else I would have given it only 1 of 5 stars. The baristas received 5 of 5 stars. Really liked the coffee there. Great selection on modifiers and add-ons. I would pick them over Starbucks if that helps. The staff was friendly and accommodating. They got 4 of 5 stars. I would say the pricing on some of the items are on the high end of the scale. We ordered two burritos, one order of the French toast and Nutella crepe. We also ordered a hot chocolate over ice, an ice americano, and a decaf ice coffee. Our total with tip came out to about $65. This was my first time at this place so I couldn't tell you if the food is always like this but I would consider going back. Sidestepping the...
