Atmosphere is very plain. No ladies pushing carts around. So I probably wouldn't bring out-of-town guests here if you want to show them the whole dim sum experience. But if you've got a craving for authentic Cantonese dim sum on the Westside, this is the place. My favorite dish is the cucumber salad, which looks spicier than it actually is (I don't like spicy foods and the cucumber salad wasn't spicy to me at all). And even though cucumber salad isn't traditional Cantonese (I think it's Szechwan), it's nice and refreshing. You order off a take-out menu (which luckily has pictures of all of the dishes) and the food dribbles out as they are ready. This means that the food is hot and fresh when it gets to your table. Before you bite into a hom sui gok, make sure it's cooled down a little or else you're going to scald your mouth. Hom sui gok and jin doi (sesame balls) were huge. Turnip cakes seemed a little thin, and the cheng fun (long rice noodle rolls) seemed a little small, too. But everything tasted great. Service can be a little slow. When we went on a recent weekday, it looked like they had a kitchen worker doing the waiter duties. He was wearing an apron instead of the usual waiter vest, and it seemed he spent more time in the kitchen instead of in the dining area. It's a little chilly inside, so bring a sweatshirt or vest. The worse part about this location, though, is the parking. During lunch time, it gets really hard to find a parking space because there are 3 other restaurants in this strip mall as well as a Peets Coffee (just go through the parking lot using Google Street View and you'll see what I mean). Street parking out front is hard to find, too. If you don't mind walking, you can park around the block over on Glendon and walk back through the alley.

I think this is my first bad Google review for a restaurant. I cannot recommend this place. The service was bad, but more importantly the food was not good. We were looking forward to good Dim Sum on the Westside, but this was not it. Here is what we ordered: 1) Baked BBQ Pork Bun - Usually this is one of my favorite Dim Sum items. The bun had a nice aroma, but the BBQ Pork filling did not have the usual slightly sweet BBQ flavor. This was just OK - but not bad. 2) Chicken and Mushroom Bun - What little chicken there was had pieces of gristle, there was just a little mushroom, almost no sauce, and the sauce had very little taste. It was just BAD. 3) Vegetable Steamed Dumplings - this was the only dish we ordered that was Good. Not great, but great compared to everything else. There was a nice taste of scallion and ginger, and it was the one item we enjoyed. 4) Vegetable Chow Mein - my wife is vegetarian, so we ordered this to have a filling dish that we normally love. Nice thick noodles. Hardly any vegetables, and a tasteless sauce. Very disappointing. Water was brought in plastic cups. A diet coke was a can they brought to the table and did not offer even a plastic cup for it or a straw. Bottom line is that I just cannot recommend this place.

So, based on the reviews, figured I’d give this place a shot since I love dim sum, and was raised on it pretty much in New York City. The first thing that struck me was how unfriendly the one gentleman that I saw running the place was to me. After reading a few reviews about how friendly the staff is- was kind of stunned, that he abruptly kind of tossed a menu at me and dropped a pen on it. Apparently he can’t be bothered with Caucasians who don’t speak Chinese. I asked him a few polite questions about the different items, but since he’s limited in his English, we didn’t get far. Also, confused by reviews that say this is the only dim sum place in West LA – in case you weren’t aware, a few blocks away closer to UCLA is a really really amazing dim sum house that has larger portions, and the prices are close to half of what these prices are. I ordered one dish just to get an idea of quality, and I have to say it was mediocre. All I can think is that all these great reviews must be from people who either weren’t raised on dim sum or have lost context for what really great dim sum is supposed to be. But at close to $10 for for a little bit of 4 shrimp dumplings …?? Try IXLB Literally just down the street. You’ll be glad that you did.

My wife doesn't eat beef or pork, and neither of us eats shrimp so that severely limits our dim sum choices. I found this place on Yelp and we tried it over a year ago. My wife was not convinced so we didn't go back. A year later she was looking up dim sum places closer than SGV (San Gabriel Valley) and saw this place. We decided to try it again and have been here twice more. I would say that for us and any who prefer chicken that this place has the most choices of dim sum with chicken than any other restaurant including in SGV. This is good dim sum. The wrappers aren't the thinnest I've had and the inconsistent shapes show me that these are house made not something from the freezer. The chicken filling is tasty and has good texture. We've been happy with every dish that we've tried. Oh, and the custard tarts... They are wonderful. This is a medium-sized restaurant in a strip mall. There is parking and street parking with a security guard in their lot. The parking lot can get full. The restaurant is bright and airy, pretty clean. At lunch during the week, there is only one server so things can get a little backed up and confused, but he does a pretty good job and is friendly. I am so thankful that good Chinese food is becoming more common on...
