At first I had completely forgot I had already tried this sushi spot once before, it wasn't that memorable the first time around obviously. Once I was inside it all came back to me and I remembered that I was not exactly impressed. The place is small but cute, probably not the place for a large group. I arrived around 7:30pm on a Wednesday and it was pretty full with people and some waiting to get seated. I later realized that it was probably that full because the service was slow as I noticed others complaining about waiting over 30 minutes to receive the items they ordered. Our starter, delicious crispy rice (I recommend)), arrived after our rolls. Hmmm, not really a starter any more in that case. The rolls we ordered sounded more exciting on the menu than they tasted. They were good, don't get me wrong, but basic. The "Don't Ask Me" Roll does not have a description on the menu, its basically a spicy tuna tempura roll with loads of crab meat on top. I say it was pretty good and different than your regular imitation crab. It wasn't good enough for me to come back and have it again, however. All in all, I've had better elsewhere for the same price or less. I particularly find it annoying that you'll get a discount if you pay cash. I mean come on! In our modern time, we are paying with phone tapping and you want cash for the discount? I should've received that discount for the wait. So if you want 10% of your bill, bring cash! For everything you see in the pictures I posted, it came out to $50 and change. I may or may not come back here. Some of there other rolls intrigued me by the description, but my belly had no room...
Read moreOverall a really nice and casual sushi restaurant in the Westwood area. I am giving it a 4/5 because there are a few more other sushi spots that I like more in the immediate area, but this place is still worth visiting. It’s very bright on the inside and there’s actually a lot of seating available. Service was really fast but we ordered appetizers and entrées, but they ended up bringing everything at once, which I was hoping to avoid. They don’t have a parking lot, but it was easy to find metered street parking right out front.
They have a fairly extensive menu with a lot of the classics. They actually do have a great selection of choices. I started off with the clam miso soup, which was really nice and warm and a good start to the meal. Next came the softshell crab, which I thought was pretty good, although it was more fried than I like and I find it better when the crab is kept intact. Next came The Room Special Roll, which was very good, the Zumba Zumba roll, which was nice with the warm langostine on top, and some assorted nigiri.
In the end I would recommend to any sushi fan, especially if you are...
Read moreI love this hidden sushi gem in Westwood. I'm glad we found it and ever since we did we visit weekly. Chef Newton, CK and T are very creative with their creations.
I recommend mostly anything on the board or you can ask the staff (who are attentive and friendly) for their recommendations.
I am currently addicted to the following: Smoked salmon with lemongrass Blackened cod- petite but really moist and packed with flavor. Amaebi which is a big sweet fresh shrimp. You can have the head fried or used in a soup. I prefer fried. Crrrrrunchy. Spicy garlic edamame- this is my preferred appetizer. Either the yellowtail or salmon collar. The Chef's 15-piece sashimi. Ankimo, the texture takes getting used to but it's awesome. The Room salad, Asian dressing with lots and lots of sashimi! MJ Roll. The iced green tea in strawberry and mango flavor.
It has a clean, quiet ambiance that makes it a nice date place.
And they're not...
