“Important ongoing Issue”, I am a Disabled (Spinal Injury) 66 year old Senior, and have been a customer of El Tepeyac since age about age of about 15, for 51 years now. Yesterday, I placed my UberEats delivery order from El Tepeyac, and for the 4th time now, I was again missing some of my food that I paid for in advance. (I order a lot of food to last me because of disability, I cannot always stand-up and cook meals) Ubereats claims that restaurant El Tepeyac did not add my taco order in with all of the order peoples orders (my order was left on my front porch, 10 containers, 1 container missing my 2 Beef Hard Tacos, total cost to me $144.00, and a separate cash tip of $15.00 for the delivery because they come from far away) The manager Jay at the restaurant claims that there were 3 other peoples outgoing food orders. He said that he (somehow) remembered that my tacos were included, out of all those other peoples in house & outgoing food orders? Yet he isn’t the female that cashiered my order, it was Alexis O.? He gave me a phone number that he is supposed to use with Ubereats as a merchant, and said just call them and they will refund your money. I called, they transferred me around, and finally a philipina (sound like her name was Winnie?) lady refused to help me saying Jay has to call, because he should not give out that merchants only contact number for Ubereats, then she hung up on me. Jay had asked me to call him back in case of not refund/help from Ubereats, I did call back, I was screened by Alexis, she told me he is busy, he would not come to the phone, and that he told her tell me he cant do anything about it? I told Alexis that he told me to call him back, she said try calling later, he’s busy, like I’m a customer too, a very good paying nice honest very long time customer and this is what they decide to show as supportive of me not being important enough to make things right? I didn’t ask for anything free from them, I always pay, or I don’t order if I cant afford to do so. Its not a big cost, 2 beef tacos a la cart, it’s the inconsideration and ignorance, the bad treatment, and order often and ordering so much, they make mistakes, but I don’t make any mistake to pay in full for food that I need. Its not a luxury for me, I am very very low income, even get SNAP/Food Stamps, and use CityRide to go pick up my food from them when I’m well enough and not in extreme spinal pain. I am hoping that whomever reads this just can understand and help make a difference, for those of us that are blocked, ignored, and cheated, and dismissed as an old and...
Read moreEl Tepeyac is a small restaurant in the middle of East Los Angeles. It is loved by locals and those that know of it will drive an hour or two just to eat there. We do.
We have been going for years, over 30 years and it never disappoints. The food is great, it is always great and the portions are huge. The prices are reasonable and always have been.
You can dine inside or out. They often have a line for inside, but not for the counter--a locals secret--so just tell them you will take the counter and you will love it. If you want a table inside the wait is not too long. There is always a place to eat outside and you can order outside to eat there or to take home. You can call ahead and have your order ready for you.
Some of the waitresses have been there for years. It is family run and always will be. We knew the owner who was a sweetheart of a man, so kind and loving. He always had a hug for me and any of the kids walked out with candy of some kind. He has since passed and the entire community mourned the passing of this generous kind man. His sweet daughter took over and I think she is in charge now.
Everything you order there is great. There is just nothing you will not like. Their guacamole is amazing and they are famous for their burritos which are all good. This is traditional Mexican food so if you want new healthy foo foo Mexican food this is not the place for you.
The place is old, but spotless and it is just heaven. It is a must when in LA....

El Tepeyac Cafe is a beloved institution in the East LA community, known for its delicious Mexican food and generous portions. As soon as I walked in, I was struck by the friendly and welcoming atmosphere, with photos of regular customers lining the walls and a lively crowd enjoying their meals.
To start, I ordered their famous "Hollenbeck Burrito," a massive burrito stuffed with beans, rice, cheese, and your choice of meat. The burrito was easily the size of a small child, and I was amazed by how much food was packed into it. The flavors were bold and delicious, with tender meat and perfectly cooked rice and beans.
In addition to the Hollenbeck Burrito, I also tried their taquitos, which were crispy and flavorful, and their tortilla soup, which was hearty and satisfying. The portions were all very generous, and I left feeling completely stuffed.
One thing to note is that El Tepeyac Cafe is cash only, so be sure to come prepared with plenty of bills. The prices are also a bit higher than what you might find at other Mexican restaurants in the area, but the quality and quantity of the food more than make up for it.
Overall, I highly recommend El Tepeyac Cafe for anyone looking for authentic and delicious Mexican food. The portions are massive, the flavors are bold, and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. Just make sure to bring cash and...
