My sis got a recommendation for this place and I am so glad she did!
We got there at about 11:45 on a Sunday. The restaurant was almost full, but we were seated right away.
The hostess and serving staff were incredibly friendly and very quick. They look like they were working hard, so I appreciated it.
First, coffee came in a HOT mug ya’ll!
I can not remember ever getting that in a restaurant. That right there is a 5 star!
Coffee was great and came in a vacuum carafe, which was nice because it stayed hot.
We shared everything. Ordered the catfish and shrimp with smothered breakfast potatoes and biscuits, the peach cobbler french toast, and a side of a turkey sausage patties.
I have lived in the deep south, Mississippi and Alabama, and this is the best catfish I’ve had outside of the that area, and on par with the fish shacks! The crumb was a perfectly crisp-crumbly, without falling off in chunks. It STUCK folks. An uncommon experience for So Cal. Next time will definitely be trying the grits.
The biscuits. These medium pucks are deceivingly homely. Do not be fooled Yelp eater. These biscuits were made by angels.
Heavy for its size, inside that unassuming disc of baked dough is the softest, most moist, heart of a biscuit. This is the moment when you feel the love those angels baked in.
The potatoes were out of this world. They were soft and creamy inside with a little bit of crunch on the outside. Long thin strips of red and green bell pepper, perfectly sautéed along with onion, and a creamy, dreamy cheese.
The Peach cobbler french toast was insanely good. I’m not usually a big sweets person, I rarely even use syrup. Frequently French toast is even too sweet for me, so I was surprised at myself for wanting to try it.
This turned out to be in my top 10 breakfast dishes ever. EVER!!!
This was like eating a bite of peach cobbler. no lie. It honestly wasn’t overly sweet. It was the best French toast I’ve personally ever had.
The sausage Patty was hands down THE best turkey sausage Patty I’ve ever eaten!!! I dipped some in the peach cobbler sauce and it was a divine bite. It’s highly flavorful, with a tiny bit of spice, and more moist than you usually get with a turkey patty.
I feel like i have been saying things like best, top, and hands down a LOT in this review. The food is JUST that good. The prices are extremely good for LA, and an even better bargain for the amount and quality of the food.
Just go. Literally as soon as they open. Take a couple of people, an empty stomach, and wear...
Read moreI'm so disappointed I even have to share the bad experience I had, but the little effort that was made to right a wrong makes me feel obligated to share. My husband and I arrived around 1230 this past Sunday. We were immediately sat with Joe being our server. Initially he was very welcoming and entertaining when we first interacted, but we could see immediately Joe was spread thin. He kept forgetting things we asked for. About 25 minutes after we arrived another couple came and they were seated next to us. Joe came and took their order and about 10 minutes later their food came out and turns out, it was our food, however the female party of that couple happened to order the same thing my husband did so they allowed her to keep the food and we still waited. About 15 more minutes go by ( we have now been here for a good 40 minutes) and we still have no food, my husband inquires about our food and they said it would be right out. When it came it was WRONG. It was baffling to me that Joe got upset with me when i told him thats not it and tried to explain the mix up he walked away like i made the wrong food. It was the food the couple next to us ordered, as I stated before, the woman and my husband ordered the same thing so he keep his food and I waited for mine to be made. In the meantime, we see the manager or owner, wasn't sure who he was, he walks to the couple beside us and apologizes for the mix up and says they will only be charged for one meal due to inconvenience. At this point, we are all laughing and amazed because we see the mix up, why don't they?? Anyway, we got our bill, went to the cashier who had braids, didn't catch her name, told her what happened and how we would like something taken off our bill because we were the ones actually inconvenienced and her response was "we are busy, sometimes it happens" 🤷🏾♀️ I understand the being busy part but that's it, no sorry or anything. They tried so hard to rectify the situation with the other couple (I'm assuming because they thought it was us) yet when I bring it to your attention it was actually us all that rectifying goes out the window. You guys offered them a free meal for messing up but we had to ask just for her to take our drinks off smh...we understand mistakes happen. It's all about how you correct the mistake. Flavor table made us feel like we were doing something wrong by requesting the food we ordered so for that reason this was our first and...
Read moreI like that this restaurant is in the local neighborhood. It’s on Florence and 7th Street. The restaurant atmosphere is a casual one, very welcoming and nice.
Our server was Willie, he was very kind, nice and patient, being that this was our first time at the restaurant, and had a few questions about the menu.
my son ordered the chicken tenders with scrambled eggs and country potatoes.
I ordered the chicken wing split, a.k.a. party wings, scrambled eggs with country potatoes.
My son enjoyed his chicken tenders. He said they were seasoned very well, and they were very soft and tender. He said the chicken tenders actually taste like fried catfish, the texture and flavor of the chicken tenders he offered me did taste a lot like fried catfish, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing… Lol I think perhaps they pound out and tenderize the chicken tenders and that’s why it was so soft and large 🤷🏽♀️
My chicken wing split a.k.a. it party wings with scrambled eggs and country potatoes were season very well.
My biggest complaint were the fact that they were party wings and not whole chicken wings and that they were small party wings at that, I would rather have two or three good size normal chicken wings, than to have six party wings. The scramble eggs were cooked very nicely, and had a little bit of salt in them so they didn’t taste absolutely plain, the country potatoes were slightly seasoned, and they were cooked softly all the way through. I just wish they were cut more uniformed, but I guess that just let you know that they were probably peeled and cut by hand.
They don’t serve any fountain drinks there, they do have canned soda and a variety of lemonade, orange juice, apple juice, and bottled water to choose from .
Overall, my son really enjoyed his meal and I enjoyed mine, despite the fact of the party wings… Lol
I would definitely go back and patronize this local restaurant again, I look forward to trying other things on the menu and hopefully the restaurant will eventually change to regular chicken wings if enough people...
