House of Pastry — Restaurant in Los Angeles

We went to House of Pastry requesting a custom cake, clearly showing them an inspiration picture and asking if they could replicate it exactly. They confidently said yes, but when we picked up the cake, it was a completely different color. Instead of admitting the mistake, they tried to gaslight us into believing it was the same color.

I showed them the original picture on my phone, and they claimed the difference was due to my "dark screen." I then showed them the same picture on a brighter screen, and they still insisted it was identical. For clarity: the inspiration photo had a toned-down color, while the cake they made was a bright pastel orange. The color would have been fine if that's what I had asked for, but it was not.

Aside from the wrong color, the design itself looked half-finished. They didn’t even add the bows that were clearly part of the design. The only thing they got right was the shape of the cake.

If you cannot replicate a design someone shows you, you should not promise that you can. Misleading customers and denying mistakes is unacceptable. This was a disappointing experience, and I would not recommend trusting them for custom designs.

I’ve been going to the house of pastry since my little girl was eight years old and making beautiful cakes exactly the way she wanted today is her 22nd birthday and she wanted a cake from the house pastry not knowing that the business has been sold to someone else thinking that the cake would come out the same. They charged me $215. I showed them a picture of a cake. They told me that they could make the exact cake when I went to pick it up. The Cake must’ve weighed 70 pounds. And halfway home, the Cake collapsed and ruined my new tan interior in my brand new car. Do not make your birthday cakes. Even their cookies are terrible. Do not ever go to House of Pastry ever again they are a rip off. I called them and they told me that it was my fault. All I did was drive home safely with the air-conditioning on. They placed it on my front passenger seat. The Cake collapse because it was 70 pounds So please do not waste your time Their cookies are terrible. Called in to see if they could assist with a custom cake. Submitted a request online, was told they dont even receive these requests so unsure why they even have that on their website.

Person i spoke with said there was nothing he could do as he was busy with other orders. My request was for same day which i understand is not realistic, but no attempt was made to find a resolution to have my business.

Requested to send information over and the person on the phone got mad at me cause i couldnt understand him when collecting the number. Said “OMG dude your getting the number wrong”. The reception was bad and the person had a thick accent which made it difficult to hear. Texted him the information and never heard back.
