Hugo's Tacos Studio City — Restaurant in Los Angeles

I had a bad experience today with small chicken bone pieces in my chicken bowl. The third time it happened I lost interest in finishing my bowl and had to throw out the rest because it was so painful to keep coming across bone pieces in the ground chicken [edit: even a couple of days later and I’m still sore from biting down on the bones.] I have also had the experience of coming home with an order missing all the salsa, lettuce, cotija, and guacamole that I requested on my bowl, but it was too late to go back. They do have yummy food, I especially like their carne asada compared to anything else and the crunchy carne asada taco is very good especially if you add all the fixings they allow - cotija, beans, salsas, and more. If you order online it’s a lot easier to see what options they have available, as it is a lot. Otherwise the taco can be dry, which was my first experience because I didn’t realize there were options when I just stopped by at the counter one day. I think it would be nice if the person who takes the order would point that out to people. I hope they work on...

The staff working here is top notch, but the food is only so so. The 3 star review is because after looking at my receipt I discovered they are charging extra for whole wheat tortillas, but when asking my preference never disclosed an extra charge. For a place that advertises itself as vegan & organic friendly charging extra for tortillas on a burrito just seems overkill. We are used to paying extra for guac, but paying extra for the tortilla that holds the burrito together just seems odd.

The food is simply okay, not great & not bad. The tacos are very basic and lack taste. The burritos are are okay, but also lack taste. Maybe they rely on salsa or added sauce for the taste here, but from my experience with good Mexican food there should always be a great taste even without added salsa. I wanted to try a new taco spot nearby, I pass by here every day so wanted to give it a try. I am VERY disappointed, the food was not very good. I took a chance and got 12 soft tacos and a drink. The tortillas were so dry and hard, they almost tasted stale. Don’t even get me started with the meat! It had no real flavoring at all, seemed very dry as well. The people working weren’t the nicest either besides the cashier. No one was very attentive when asking for condiments, plates, etc. I did not feel welcome or attended at all. This was super disappointing! I REALLY wanted to like this spot, especially with all the vegetarian options!
