I had no idea that Jersey Mike existed out in Los Angeles. I had first heard of it a couple of years ago from friends and also saw the chain on the Travel Channel.
During my recent stay in the city, my uncle suggested that we pick up some subs from there on our way to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to go watch USC play. Although I'm not a big fan of chains, In N Out being an exception, I decided to actually agree and must admit that I was quite excited. From what I had heard, Jersey Mikes essentially kicks Subway in the ass. Their subs are supposed to taste way better and way fresher and although the prices are a bit higher, the value is supposed to be significantly better.
We proceeded to park and I quickly leaped out of the car and right into the joint; I was followed by my uncle. After glancing at the menu, I decided to try and keep it fairly healthy and went for a regular #7 - fat-free turkey and provolone. I was then asked if I wanted white or wheat bread and decided to go for the latter. Within just instants, the friendly staff member sliced the bread to order and promptly pilled some very thinly sliced turkey and some cheese before passing the sandwich to his co-worker on his right.
I was then asked what I wanted on it - I saw that they advertised on the store, on one of their posters, that you could have your sandwich the "Mike Way" which essentially means lettuce, tomatoes, onions, spices, oil and vinegar. I decided to go for that since it seemed to be a pretty popular option based on the fact that it was heavily marketed. Again, the employee piled everything, then shook some spices on top and poured the oil and vinegar onto it before wrapping it to go.
The speed, efficiency and friendliness of the staff was refreshing. Fast-forward about an hour and we're at the USC campus, surrounded by tailgating Trojan fans and find a bench. I impatiently unwrap my sub and dig in. It was delicious from the first to the last bite. It tasted delicious and was only $7.50, which really wasn't bad considering the size and quality of the sandwich.
I'm really hoping that they'll be opening some more locations within Massachusetts where I live. I'd love to be able to go there once in a while. It's definitely a nice upgrade from Subway. On the downside, the employee put way too much oil and vinegar on my sandwich and parts of it were a bit soggy. Still delicious...
Read moreI come here for lunch sometimes and usually they are pretty good. Most of the time they are pleasant, have a smile, greet people. We all know customer service is Everything to keep customers coming back. After all there are other choices we all can go to. But, today I noticed this guy, I believe they called him Mike. He works handling food decided to come around with food handling gloves open the fridge to get a drink, then grabbed a bag of chips for a customer. I don't know why the customer couldn't get their own chips and drink, they are all on that side for self service. I told him (mike), I hope you change those gloves now that they are touched everything everyone touches. His remark to me was " I will, maybe you should put on an apron and come back here and work! I said perhaps I should, and I will be watching to make sure you change those gloves your not touching my food like that. Thankfully he stayed cooking on grill!! Talk about rude.. I can take my...
Read moreEither more staff is needed or the staff that's at this location simply sucks. I always have problems here, I'd ask to get 2 family packs and the rep behind the counter told his supervisor and she said the earliest she can have it for me is at 730pm. It was 530pm so then I ask can you just get 8 giant #8 and the meat cutter just said he wasn't dealing with me and pass my reg italian sandwich to the next person who was the mngr adding the other stuff to my sandwich as I was trying to ask her about my other orders she gave my sandwich to the guy on the registered and then she brought him a page so he can fill out for a family pack. I know there probably tired but it's the same thing they are doing for 8 customers behind me. I really think they could had done specifically all being so easy and mikes way. No extra sauce and no extra things. This guy are no...
