May 2019. We arrived late in the evening and our first sight of the Tarzana Inn the hotel it appeared dilapidated and somewhat run down.. The sign outside was faded with letters missing. The reception area is decorated in heavy old fashioned drapes .A cleaner, more contemporary feel would do wonders for the place. Some rooms are very badly situated, particularly those on the way to the car park on the 1st floor. They are very dark and noisy with people and their bags passing at all times of the day and night. Other rooms both on the 1st and 2nd floor face the busy Ventura Boulevard . The best rooms are on the second floor facing the pool. The pool is not for unsupervised children as it is 3 ft deep one end and 8ft deep at the other. At the time of writing this review, it is closed and has been since January 2019 with no sign of it opening any time soon. If you want a hotel with a pool then check before booking. However we were pleased the pool was closed as its close proximity to the rooms could make all the rooms very noisy until closing time at 10pm. The breakfast area is tiny with just three small tables for approx fifty rooms , but it coped whilst we were staying. There is a free selection of good pastries, oatmeal, bagels, bread, fruit, orange and apple juice, tea and coffee. It opens 6.30 to 10am. Our two rooms were the best, situated on the 2nd floor facing the pool. They were sunny and quiet , spacious and clean with a huge TV, fridge, tea and coffee making facility and decent shower all renovated not too long ago. Our rooms had good high speed internet. The staff were friendly and all in all we did not regret our choice. When we arrived the reception told us that as were were staying 10 days we had been allocated the best and quietest rooms. The car park is to the rear of the hotel and the first night it had some rather unsavory looking characters hanging around, but it is well lit at night and we suffered no damage. It is too small for the hotel and at weekends we had to park in the street as the car park was full. It has only around 25 to 30 spaces for about 50 rooms. To get the best deal insist on pool facing rooms on the 2nd floor. Try to avoid those rooms on the way to the car park or facing Ventura Boulevard. Be aware there is no elevator so those with disabilities, prams, small children or heavy bags will need to think twice about 2nd...
Read moreWe stayed here during a family reunion weekend recently. Location was perfect with easy access to 101 freeway and a locals-only breakfast spot next door (The Little Cafe!) We had 4 rooms in our group. Rooms were dated, and our bed was lumpy in spots , but they were clean. Housekeeping did a great job. Best of all, the AC was more than adequate! Summertime in the Valley can be brutally hot, and the Tarzana Inn was very cool and welcoming,, after a day with family by the pool. Front desk staff was super helpful and kind. I’d give 5 stars, except for the aesthetics. The whole place needs a paint job, and the front sign is faded and cracked. Artwork in rooms is really bad, even by motel standards. - Think abstract art by that elephant on the internet who paints! - Bath towels could be larger and not so scratchy. The parking lot is small with tight, narrow spaces. Ultimately we got the value we were looking for, and the awesome service was a total bonus. I Will definitely book here again and would highly recommend staying at the...
Read moreParked in their outdoor parking area and checked in on Friday evening. The next morning, my vehicle had it's emblem torn off the front grill! I immediately filed a police report, insurance, and told the front desk.
The front desk me they would notify their manager and contact me if they had any video etc. it took 2 days until the manager was even available and he never reached out to me. I went to the front everyday to check up on the situation.
Manager had a terrible attitude and basically just ignored my issue. Said their video system was "off" and brushed me off. I expect at least a moderate amount of safety or at the very least basic surveillance of their property. Took no responsibility. Heed the warnings, stay away from this place. It's not worth it to deal with this kind of place and people on your vacation.
The room smells and the towels they provide are not clean. Not disabled friendly. If they give you a room on the second floor, good luck up the stairs as they won't accommodate you.
Expensive, unsafe, and...
