I wish they’d actually inform customers about the mystery 4% up-charge they add to your total after they scan all your items and you think you know the prices. As a new customer, I’d sure have been appreciative of knowing what’s going on and how much I’m actually being charged. Instead, I only realized after leaving the store and seeing on my receipt that the price of every item I bought was mysteriously increased by 4 percent.
Almost none of the products on the shelves here have prices on them, either. A few of those have shelf tags, but most don’t, and many of the shelf tags and products don’t even correspond, so. It’s a random guessing game what you’ll be paying for at least 80% of the merchandise in this place.
The food quality is mediocre at best (I’ve been shopping at slavic groceries most of my adult life and eating the cuisine since childhood). Both of the - different brand - boxes of zefir I got taste surprisingly bad. One is frankly terrible enough it shouldn’t even be considered an edible product (and explains why I’ve never seen this brand at other grocers). The cholodetz dish I bought was entirely too bland and contained so much gelatin that it was tough to chew and the leftovers didn’t melt at all even a full day later, unrefrigerated (No, that is decidedly not the traditional way to prepare it). Some of the other items I favor were way overpriced as well, so I didn’t bother. Doubt I’ll ever have reason to...
Read moreI had a really great visit, I found myself really amazed by all the great Russian/European items here. Everything they provide seemed to be of the utmost quality and ready very quickly. From start to finish I was fully guided and assisted by the very polite team there, trying to help familiarize me with certain things. Every Russian market I've been to, the team loves what they do and are happy to help, and Oliv'es takes this to a new level. Irina was super helpful as well, I called in asking many questions and she went way out of her way to assist and when I arrived she assisted even further. The hot sauce I ended up getting was exactly what I was looking for, she picked out the best kind. There is such a wide variety and selection of goods as well. I haven't had any kind of negative or unpleasant experience here whatsoever, always on point. I also like how they let you sample or try things before buying, a real convenience. The location truly has a well thought out, modern setup and layout, and the salads, meats, and baked goods are fantastic. I highly recommend others stop by Oliv'es to experience this superb food market...
Read moreJust wow. What a service. I asked what kind of salmon they had in deli, the lady listed 3 types, one of which was salmon with crab on it. I clarified whether it was imitation crab or real. Another clerk lady couldn't stop herself from commenting: "lady, do you know how much real crab would cost you? Of course, it's imitation!". I said "ok" and proceeded with another lady placing my order. I was so shocked... nowhere else a customer can get such a response other than in a Russian store, I guess. Yet, I've lived here for over 10 years, and even in Russian stores everyone was nice to me. BTW, you can get crab cakes at nearby American stores at $8 per 2 crab cakes. They don't cost an arm and leg... just so you know. The food is good there, but I won't be back. There is another Russian grocery store on Reseda Blvd whereI'vebeen going for years. I came to this store only because my friend...
