Hidden gem that rivals, dare I say it, Nobu! Not too many quality sushi restaurants in the area, yes I am quite picky with my raw fish, more so than other types of food, so was pleasantly surprised when I happened to come here (it's a little hard to find which is why I say "hidden gem") while I was walking through the plaza behind it to pick up some stuff from Goop. The menu offers variety in pricing. If you're ready to let your tastebuds dance and treat yourself, you can try things like the wagyu (I could eat 3 plates of this myself if my wallet let me) but if you're in the mood for standard rolls, they will be excellent too. Service is always friendly and prompt. The sushi chef behind the bar is catering and will work with you if you sit at the bar to make an amazing experience for you. Or sit at a table to order whatever you want if you already know. The table next to us had a restaurant regular and he ordered a wagyu uni caviar nigiri. I decided to treat my table to this and ordered a few and WOW. Can't quite describe this- but the flavors and texture are unforgettable. It's not on the menu and I would never have known if I hadn't heard from the table next to me so I'm not sure if they always have it but it was at this time I started calling the restaurant a hidden gem. Our favorite dessert was the strawberry mochi ice cream thing. I’m not sure anyone would not like this! Such a crowd pleaser. Nothing is overly salty or overly sweet here. If a sushi restaurant is, I find myself wondering what they’re masking. Everything is super fresh as it should be when it comes to raw fish. Have returned regularly since then.

We just wanted to grab dinner at the Brentwood Country Mart and discovered that the previous Japanese restaurant that occupied this space (and had taken over the space from long time neighborhood sushi spot Nagao) was no longer and is now Kitsu.

We rolled the dice and had a great experience. Upon entering the space is striking - very clean lines and comfortable nicely spaced chairs. There is no raw fish filled “sushi fridge” that circles the top of the sushi bar, underscoring a sense of openness to the room.

Menu isn’t so much small as it is deliberate - they offer a number of familiar yet unique options (seared salmon roll w lime rind comes to mind, a must have) while also offering nigiri and “classic rolls available upon request.” In other words, the stuff that makes kitsu compelling and unique comfortably arrives as more of an invitation than a mandate; they do it their way but also want to make sure you’re comfortable and attended to.

To be clear, everything was of highest quality. Sushi was excellent; In particular, their non- sake wine list was not just good but impressive- multiple Sicilian whites and unexpected reds suggested an informed and thoughtful approach.

That being said, Having a point of view and not just trying to be a replacement level neighborhood sushi spot is an ambitious move in Brentwood. For the long timers it will always live in the shadow of Nagao; my partner and I LOVED Nagao and still miss it as we would go there 1-2x a month.

Kitsu is prettier, more modern, less cluttered, and offers an elevated, pricier experience. We...

Kittsu Sushi - Brentwood Review

Kittsu Sushi has become my go-to neighborhood sushi spot in Brentwood for a reason: it’s high quality, always fresh, and offers fantastic value. Whether you're popping in for a casual dinner or craving something special, the food never disappoints.

One must-try dish is the sweet shrimp with fried heads — it’s a perfect blend of texture and flavor. The delicate, sweet shrimp is super fresh, and the crispy fried heads add a satisfying crunch that takes the dish to another level. It’s the kind of thing that makes you want to keep coming back!

Highly...
