Famous for their chocolate chip walnut cookies, these cookies are worth it.
This is a coveted cookie that I do think is worth the hype and price. Every cookie is made with an abundance of chocolate/nuts/etc. Crisp on the outside, soft and pillowy inside. They're rich and heavy in weight, 2x the thickness of a regular big cookie. This is not "healthy" nor a small snack, this is an indulgence.
Dark chocolate chip - rich and decadent
Rocky road - my favorite one! I usually don't like nuts in a cookie but the sliced almonds really just added texture and crunch. The dark chocolate cookie and marshmallow really carried the flavor and made it delightful.
Chocolate chip walnut - they use whole walnuts!! WHOLE walnuts.
Two chip chocolate chip - double the chocolate chips, double the melt in your mouth.
Blueberry muffin - the best one you'll have
5/5 Service - They have multiple people taking orders so it's pretty efficient. The person helping me was patient and explained what they were known for, and what some items were that I didn't recognize. I ordered 7 cookies which didn't quite fit any of the boxes perfectly but she let me know and we worked it out. They wrap each cookie in wax paper and make sure it's all tucked nicely.
5/5 Ambiance - Store is small but everything's behind clear glass and in view. You'll see fresh cookies being pulled out. There are postcards for you to take which is a nice touch especially if you're getting a gift. The outside wall facing the Wells Fargo parking lot is painted in the iconic Levain art!
Parking - tricky but there's street parking and the parking lot which is supposed to be for Wells Fargo. At the end of the day this is Larchmont Village in the middle of LA. This area is mostly residential with the exception of businesses on Larchmont Blvd. Traffic and parking difficult is to be expected! That's simply the cost of coming to areas...
Read moreAhhh Levain, SO much hype for their chonky walnut chocolate chip cookies. The verdict? They’re pretty good, but expensive at $5 a cookie. Crispy on the outside, essentially underbaked on the inside due the massive mound of dough they use, and very sweet (would be killer with some flaky sea salt on top). As a hot tip - the lines can still be out the door but we went at 8pm and had no wait to get in. So if you want to strategically get your mitts on one of these cookies - go late!
Given all the hype online, my expectations were through the roof, which might not be fair to this bakery. Again a good cookie, but I do feel like I could make this is home for way less with a TikTok dupe recipe that I’m sure is floating around. The biggest difference with this cookie is the gooey-ness (due to size) and quality of ingredients (they use very good chocolate and walnuts). You can see them baking all through the day, so they are fresh. They also heated up our cookie before serving, which was a nice touch. We tried their coffee cake as well which was tasty with a big well of cinnamon sugar on the inside.
Great location in Larchmont village where you can walk around to other stores to burn off your sugar high. Parking can be a little tricky, but metered street parking is available and if all else fails you can try the side streets.
The interior is sparse with no seating. This is mostly a stand-in-line type of place, but the surrounding area is nice enough where you can manage. There are also a few benches right outside.
The final verdict? It’s a fun experience to see what all the hype is about. If I would have had to wait in a long line however, I’m not sure I would have been as satisfied. My recommendation, it’s a fun treat after a night out or a satisfying solution when a cookie...
