The pizza here was pretty alright, but my service was not. I wanted to get pizza for my 15 person work crew and I saw that Pizzanista was for my a $2 Tuesday special, the way the online menu was worded was confusing to me because "$2 pizza" sounds to me like a whole pizza for $2, so I called to find out if my assumption was correct, when I asked "am I getting a whole pizza" I was told "yes, you get a large pizza for $2" I was in disbelief, I was expecting an individual pizza for that much and to be told I get a large was very exciting, I felt like I could feed my crew twice over with pizza to spare! I quickly ordered online and my ready time was supposed to be 12:48, I wait 20 extra minutes thinking that's a reasonable time as they were in lunch rush thinking I was waiting for 6 whole pizzas, when my order arrives I'm surprised to see one pizza box, I tell the person handing the orders out "that's the wrong order" he looks at my receipt and tells me "this is what you ordered" and proceeds to open the box and show me six elementary school pizza party's slices, I start to tell them that I had spoken with somebody else on the phone assuring me that I was getting a whole pizza, and he just walks away from the storefront. The deal itself is fine, I have no qualms with getting slices for $2 but I was explicitly told that I'm getting a whole pizza, my crew was very disappointed and hungry because I'm sure at this point you can understand what they were...
Read moreTLDR: Divey pizza place with vegan slice options.
On a food tour, I came across Pizzanista on a Sunday. Any other day, I wouldn't risk braving DTLA traffic and parking, but I was able to find easy free street parking.
The place is dark, with loud music, and features 12+ slices, of which 4 are vegan.
The place is solid, but not necessarily the best pizza in LA. It satisfies your cravings and isn't obtusely priced. 4 vegan slices plus tip around $30.
Service is friendly and I got my 4 pizza slices in under 4 minutes, perhaps helped by the fact that there were no competing orders. It tasted great while fresh, with a bit of chewy mouthful.
I ordered 3 thin crusts: vegan pepperoni, vegan veggies, vegan seitan meats Jesus, and a Sicilian style focaccia thick crust.
My favorites were vegan seitan meats Jesus (what loaded name) that had bits of crispy vegan bacon and pepperoni, and the vegan veggies (very juicy). The other 2 were passable.
Overall, Pizzanista was a better than average vegan pizza experience. Not in the same league as Hot Tongue, but if you are in DTLA arts district, a...
Read morePIZZANISTA! DTLA has a plethora of vegan slices, so I got one of each and out of the five slices, I liked 3. The vegan: Pepperoni, Margarita and Cheese were all hella good! These are all classic pizza flavors and this place didn't disappoint, but when it came to the other 2 slices and a side of Garlic Knots, it did.
The Garlic Knots gave nothing but dough. I didn't care for them and didn't finish. All I tasted was chewy, dough, garlic and butter. I didnt like this side dish.
The Veggie and Seitan Meats Jesus Slices were salty :/ The "bacon" stripes on the pizza were salty af and only the "pepperoni" tasted good. Pepperoni pizza had ALWAYS been my favorite kind, so I'm glad I was finally able to find a vegan alternative :) But, the red onions were the most salty veggies on the Veggie Pizza. I might try these slices again in the future, but first impression gave S-A-L-T!
However, the Pepperoni, Margarita and Cheese Pizzas made the best impressions and the ranch and marinade sauce complimented them...
