Red Maple Toluca Lake — Restaurant in Los Angeles

My girlfriend and I went to Red Maple on Sunday to enjoy breakfast together. We have been to this restaurant at least 10 times throughout the pandemic, appreciate the service the employees supply, and tip well. The owner has seen us dining at the restaurant on numerous occasions and never says hello or welcoming at all.

When we arrived I put my name on the list, and the owner, who is constantly multi-tasking, in a very hectic manner, said it will be about a 30 minute wait. So, I gave my name and my girlfriend and I took a walk for 30 minutes.

When we returned, I asked how much longer and he said there's still a few ahead of you. I walked back outside and waited. About 15 minutes later I walked in to see how much longer and the owner said soon. I walked out and waited. About 15 minutes later, we noticed three tables had been cleared and cleaned. My girlfriend then went in to ask if we could sit at one of the open tables. When she walked in the owner was speaking with another customer. My girlfriend didn't want to interrupt, so she asked a server who was standing next to the owner, if we could sit at one of the tables. The owner disengaged from the other customers he was speaking with, walked around to the front of the cash register, aggressively approached her and yelled, "the tables have to be cleaned before you can sit." She said "with respect, sir, the tables have already been cleaned, and by the way you are verbally attacking me, it doesn't seem like you value me or my continued patronage." The owner then became seriously unhinged and yelled "you and your husband are nothing but trouble. GET OUT OF HERE AND DON'T COME BACK!"

She came out and said, "We've just been kicked out." I was flabbergasted and walked in to find out what's going on. He was wrapping up with another customer, so I patiently waited and when he was done I asked "what's going on?" He walked out from behind the register, charged at me, grabbed me by my arms, pushed me back and said "Leave my restaurant!" I told him to get his hands off me.

This angry person verbally assaulted my girlfriend and verbally and physically assaulted me. Unfortunately, he has anger issues and lacks the skills necessary to speak with and treat loyal customers with respect. We are shocked and disappointed.

This is the first negative post I've ever given in my life, however one day later, I'm still unnerved, and upset, so I feel it's important to let the community know about this...

First of all, howwww did it take me this long to come to this place. I’ve driven by it for years and it always appears pretty packed from the outside. Now I totally get why!!

I went for brunch for the first time today (on a Sunday). I called because the google wait list and their website waitlist weren’t working. To note, they turn it off when it’s busy. I waited about an hour and then the waitlist was back up. It said about 38-52 minutes. Not too bad for a Sunday plus you can add yourself before you get there.

They validate parking for one hour in the back but the lot looked a little crowded so I found a spot on the street. Plus with a wait, I knew we’d be here for more than an hour. Wish it was 2 at least!

I checked in with host and was told it’d be about 20 mins. I think we waited about 10 and then were seated. They text you when a table is ready.

We were sat on the back patio. I had no idea there was one. It’s a little packed but they turned the heater on for us since it was a little chilly.

Our server was Sabrina. She was super sweet and accommodating!! I got an iced lavender matcha latte with Beyoncé on the top! Super cool thing that they do here. There is a pretty long list of celebrities that they will put on your hot or cold latte. Just FYI for an image on a hot latte, it has to be whole fat or non fat milk. My bf got the horchata lebowkski. Both were delicious.

For food, we got the banana berry pancakes and tiramisu French toast, along with a side of scrambled eggs, bacon, and chicken sausage. Everything was 10/10. The salted caramel on the banana berry pancakes was sooo delicious. Best I’ve ever had. The butter shaped into maple leaves also was a nice touch.
