EXPERIENCE 1 (Positive) 09/22/25
This restaurant has the layout, and feel of Japanese restaurants from days gone by. However, at the same time, it's very modern and stylish.
I entered with my Mom, and we were immediately greeted and seated. Our server was very friendly and had a great personality. It turns out he was very knowledgeable as well. I ordered the Salmon Shioyaki Entree, and Mom ordered the Miso Marinated Black Cod Entree. The Entrees come with Soup & Salad. The salad was subtly flavorful. With the greens, vegetables, crunchy topping, and dressing combining to create a delicious starting salad. The Miso Soup was very flavorful, and well balanced. They were both wonderful ways to start a meal. My Salmon Shioyaki was incredible. The Shio (Salt), enhances the natural flavor of the Salmon, and helps in browning, and creating crispy tasty salmon skin. The flesh was firm, yet tender and flaky. Just a squeeze of lemon, and it was perfection exemplified. The accompaniments, and rice, along with the delicious mixed Vegetables made it a complete meal. I had a taste of the Miso Black Cod. The glazed Miso flavor was undeniable, as the Black Cod melted in my mouth, ending in deliciousness.
A Japanese meal embodies that the sum of all parts, equals the whole. The Entrees here are examples of that philosophy.
The prices here are well worth it, considering what you get. The whole staff here is very friendly. Our server helped make our dining experience fantastic. We hope to see him again. We...
Read moreUpdated Post: Sorry Katsu-ya Reseda, I have to downgrade you guys by 1 star, last night's sashimi and sushi were really not up to what they're used to be. Disappointed that the sashimi wasn't quite fresh and something's off with the sushi rice, perhaps they changed the rice brand or may be it's the cook, anyhow, it's okay for the price i guess. But if you really want good sushi, visit the Studio City Katsuya instead. Quality of the reseda shop seems to be going downhill in my opinion. Happy Eating!
Original Post: Great sushi & saki!!! Used to go to Studio City and Encino for Katsu-ya, but they opened one in Northridge, so we went for my daughter's BD & everyone had a super delicious meal with some of the favorite sushi, blue fin tuna, yellow tail, albacore tune etc. The assembly dinner which consists of 8 different types of sashimi and sushi combo is fantastic, love the presentation. Don't forget the miso soup with clam, yum! Oh, they have excellent saki in a wooden box so u can drink that in a traditional Japanese way, very cool :) Service is good, suggest to make reservation first, even a weeknight...
Read moreI am just leaving the restaurant after ordering pick-up, but I already know the sushi will be its usual top quality—something I always expect from Kayauya-Northridge. But what truly sets this location apart is the manager, Joe. His care, attention, and dedication go way beyond the ordinary. Joe is the reason my family and I will keep coming back and why we’ll be bringing all of our dear friends with us.
It’s rare to find someone who makes you feel so well taken care of, and Joe does exactly that. His commitment to genuine hospitality sets the standard; he is the best example of what a business manager should be. The owners should feel so grateful they have him leading their team in Northridge.
Thank you, Joe, for making this visit, and every visit for your customers so great. You’ve earned our loyalty for...
