Reported to BBB, to which Crunch did not respond to:
Cancelled contract within 2 days. Contacted the gym 7-8 times over a period of 8 months to ask for the refund, which they confirmed. Still unresolved.
In December 2019 I started a gym membership at Crunch Northridge. The amount was $29.95 and it was processed on December 9th, 2019. Due to unexpected events I had to cancel the membership. I cancelled the contract within 2 days of signing it. This was confirmed by the gym associates more than 5 times at different time periods.
Although the refund amount is only $30, consumers should never have to go through what I went through to obtain their refund, regardless of the amount. The gym confirmed to me 7+ times that the refund is "processing". In December 2019 "everything was backed up due to New Years", and in February "everything was backed up" due to some other issue that I do not remember. When I contacted them before March it was still "processing", then in June "everything was backed up due to the coronavirus".
Finally, on June 16th 2020, I managed to get them to confirm to me the refund amount over a recorded phone call and email so that I have record of this. The same manager who first "cancelled" my contract and confirmed that I should be receiving the refund picked up the phone, then emailed me back. I know because I recognized his voice. He confirmed over email that he would be "expediting" the refund and that it will be sent out before the end of July. It is now almost the end of August and I still haven't received the refund. His name is "Randy L".
I am attaching the email conversation I had with Randy L from June. It's only $30 and I'm obviously not writing this detailed review and reporting them to the authorities just to get $30 back. It's about exposing their disrespect towards customers and settling the issue. Please see the attached email.
Upon seeing this review Randy L picked up the phone and had the audacity to argue with me, shouting, "nobody expected the coronavirus to happen!!!"... Unfortunately that doesn't make sense because this issue has been unresolved for 6+ months BEFORE the pandemic even started. He blatantly lied repeatedly and did everything to make the process extremely difficult. He's using the exact same tactic he's been using for the past 10 months- blame something else instead of taking accountability. He confirmed to me over the phone over and over again that the refund is "processing", giving a different excuse each time. After all that he has the audacity to shout over me? Absolutely ridiculous and extremely disrespectful. I've been trying to be patient about this for so long but I should have been forceful from the beginning for people like him. What will be his next excuse once the coronavirus is gone? "Everything is delayed because my wife...
Read moreI was a member for about a year before the COVID 19 pandemic forced gyms to shut down. When they opened mid pandemic, I called to cancel my membership. The person that answered the call told me they can't cancel my membership unless I go in person to prove my identity. I asked if there was a way I can prove my identity over the phone so I can avoid being in a gym that allowed people to enter without masks and did not control the amount of people allowed at once. I was forced to go in at the risk of contacting the deadly disease to cancel. When I went inside, I explained to the receptionist that I was cancelling and he asked for my ID an told me I was cancelled and explained that if I wanted to return to the gym I had to rejoin.
About 8 months later I get an odd transaction in my bank statement from Crunch Fitness. I quickly called and asked about what this was. They told me I was not cancelled. I explained what happened in the beginning of the year and they understood. A few weeks later I got a call from a phone operator asking for payment for the crunch account. I then explained to them exactly what happened, and they said ok sorry about that.
Recently I received a phone call from what sounded like a law office explaining that crunch fitness gave them my information in order to collect a debt, asking for payment right away. I explained what had happened and he said to contact crunch fitness because the debt will show in my credit history if I do not pay them. I am very upset at how my cancelation was handled and how crunch fitness is trying to get more money out of me after being cancelled for over a year. Crunch Fitness has been very inconsiderate as a company during the pandemic and mishandle their cancellation. Hopefully, no one else gets threatened by law offices for debt collection after being cancelled for...
Read morePros: Cheap especially if you got in for $10 a month. Parking always available. 24 Hours. The staff are ok. Thereâs a dry sauna. They actually kick out homeless folks especially late at night.
Cons: cheap gym means maintenance is almost non existent. The water machine for bottles are almost always broken. Most of the people that goes there just wanted to show off well most are kids thatâs why - those wearing socks and crocs to workout and pajamas lol yeah thatâs hip and hot. Those people that hangs out for hours that crowds the small gym. Itâs a small gym and it does get crowded at peak hours. You get those people that uses the sauna as if itâs their own private sauna who puts stupid oil that they donât even care about if others are allergic or donât mint the irritant. Since you get people that are cheap and doesnât know gym etiquette the gym is always gross. The people that works there barely cleans they rather talk to their friends than actually work. To be honest the atmosphere if youâre really into working out is sub par and I really donât recommend it. Itâs an ok gym itâs just most people are annoying those ones that has tripods or cameras hogging machines telling people that they are filming lol and theyâre the obese and unfit ones. If you want to film without people bothering you set your own gym. If you just want to hang out and talk to people and not get any workout done and think talking for 3 hours is working out this gym if for you. If youâre that person that thinks dropping weight and machines so loud that the entire gym is shaking this gym is for you. Seriously, dropping plates or banging machines so hard that as if itâs almost broken doesnât add a speck of...
