Where do I start with the nickel mine?! I had my company christmas party this weekend at the nickel mine and from the very beginning the staff exhibited the utmost professionalism. When we arrived everything was set up perfectly and exactly as expected. The staff even went so far as to create a little custom sign letting everyone know that we had reserved the area for our christmas party. We all wanted separate checks opened so there would be no confusion and in the midst of 30 drunk people everything was put on everyone's tab perfectly. Our waitress Brenda was excellent. She checked on us constantly and made sure everyone's cup was always taken care of. Fidel, the manager, kept everything running so smoothly. Fidel constantly kept checking that our waitress was taking care of the entire party (which she was!) and came in with a few complimentary drinks once. The way they took care of our party was a show of great teamwork and customer service. All the employees were talking about how we will be making this a yearly event at the nickel mine. As my first time there Fidel and his team have converted me into a regular customer and will be returning to the bar with my wife and friends just because I know they treat their customers right. Read moreThey have a fair selection of beers and the food looked good but we only got drinks. The service was actually horrible though so you have to get past that to enjoy yourself. We arrived around 9-9:30 and had to wait a while for a server to take our order. There were QR codes to look at the menu but the online ordering system didn’t work so we had to wait. Once we had a server she was pretty good at checking on us. But then at some point our server left without telling us??? Literally never said anything about her transferring our tab or needing to close out, legit didn’t tell us she was walking out. Whoever she transferred our tab to also didn’t give us a heads up or check on us for 40 minutes (meanwhile we were looking around for our long gone server), but instead ran the card on the tab without confirming our tab or confirming it was the right card to use (which it wasn’t). When we found out our server was gone, it was around 12 midnight when the bartender went around kicking everyone out because he wanted to close early. He clearly didn’t care that we had a problem with the lack of communication and the Willy nilly attitude with our cards/tab, proved by him walking away multiple times while we were trying to understand and discuss it. -no breakfast food despite the menu and calling ahead no coffee and mixed messaging on whether ai could go out and buy a cup with severe intimidation by the bouncer cockroach on the table tho they comped a drink after it was removed. Managerxsaid no much they could do about it. no tomato soup despite menu and being asked if I wanted it refused to switch screens so we could see saying it would cause a fist fight -after all that Server said the manager was coming over to talk to us. When he finally came over, he stood there. He finally asked if we had a question. Huh??? After all that an apology would have been nice, but nope - he was rude and argumentative and very angry talking about his 20 years in the business.
They did comp the grilled cheese, fries and pretzel sticks. I won't go back which probably doesn't matter to them. I did give the server a tip and we went to Busby's Santa Monica - better drinks, better food, better service,...
