We checked in around 3p, the freshly cleaned room owned its dollar store fragrance like a fedora in a jazz bar. My colleague shot rocks and I paper, finally, things were looking up. I took the first floor door by the stairs for âeasier accessâ should I find my constitution out of balance in the dark of the night. Upon approaching my door, I could hear the rhythmic push and pant of an over acted primordial dance from the room adjacent to me. I smiled and shook my head as I opened my door thinking âat least someoneâs making the best of it.â For my new neighbors, however, this was not a short endeavor. I quickly realized there was more to the situation. The oddly timed start and stop, of what I had mistakenly assumed for passion, was cheapened by muffled direction. I also assumed, a team of people made subtle changes to light and angle as another hour of this pushed on. Now, I believe in the whole hearted pursuit of dreams and I accept the slimy chase is cheaply tagged on like a thin, rubbery membrane separating reality from fantasy; but I had no time for this game. At the front desk, the man was sympathetic to my mild annoyance but could not allow me to change rooms. He did, however, offer some encouragement that the other guests âwould be done soonâ suggesting that he had been in on it somehow. Maybe they slipped him some freshly presses 20âs, sticky with ATM dust. Binding them together in a significant weight. I borrowed a lighter and accepted this. After all I hadnât come for the hotel. It was merely a place for me to pretend to sleep for 8 or 16 of the next 72 hours. After riding towards the sunset on a rental bike, down the exposition corridor, I took a ceremonial freak-walk in Venice, where I was offered two blues and a Death Star by a very kind dancer who said I could âfind her at Jumbos most night.â I thanked her for the kindness and headed back for some respite. My bike ride back tested all that gravity had to offer and upon arrival to the hotel I celebrated my earlier victory of the first floor conquest. Sleep came easy. Abruptly, around 2am, I woke to an electronic gargle. Sounding like a mass extinction of every capacitor from every electronic device in the room was dying a slow death as the microchips won the battle of scale. The sound of pure evil emanated from the corner, flashing red and repeating a distress symbol, as to say âweâre sorry the voicemail in hell is full, please try again later.â I shot from my bed holding a pillow as a shield, Quixote style, and fought my fear, inching closer and closer to the portal. Recognizing the strange squeal was emanating from the hardline phone, I threw the pillow on top and disconnected the cable from the wall. Pride bubbled in me like a caveman as the noise faded and the toxicity of my adrenaline spike. Luckily it was short enough and I found my way to the plush, and mostly clean, white cotton sheets of my bed. Just before falling asleep, I could hear the door in the room next to me close. My last thought before I fell back asleep was⊠âplease let it be a silent film.â Iâm not sure what happened to that phone, but the next day the front desk assured me they would look into it. The rest of my stay was very relaxing....
Read moreIf I could give this place a zero I would. My best friend was in town to find her wedding dress and they booked for a night here, the first person(mother of the bride) saw a price of $190, The second person(mother of the groom) went to book and was charged a non refundable $290. We got to the hotel to check in after finding the perfect dress, and guess what...they jacked the price up again to $330 PLUS a $15 charge for parking. Thinking what else are we gonna do on a Saturday night in LA during July we took the room only to find the room was directly next to a medicinal weed shop! No where did they disclose that! Had they made note of that in their description they would not have booked because one of the bridesmaids is allergic to the stuff, just the smoke sent her into a reaction and her throat started swelling up. We told the guy at the front they couldn't stay in that room and they tried to give them two separate rooms at a $70 (supposedly discounted) fee, before we paid I told him to let us see the rooms before we allowed them to charge us and he did, but guess what! The rooms they wanted to move us to were right above the first room on the second floor! What kind of bull are they trying to pull here! We ended up getting a room at the Century Plaza not far from this place and I highly recommend you do the same, their rooms are bright and beautiful with a balcony and view to die for(plus a pool, fresh flowers and friendly staff oh and did I mention at about $100 less than sky hotel ), unlike this place with a dark room and decor that screams "trying to hard" and a view of an ugly stucco wall that our bridesmaid could have literally died from.oh and sky hotel at over $300 a night you can afford to plant some real flowers and trees in your courtyard not the fake flowers you have all over the place. If your thinking of booking here it's a bait and switch rip off. oh and if you dispute the charge the hotel will say they tried to accommodate you with a different room, different room my but, different room next to the same weed shop we just told you we couldn't be near because someone would end up...
Read moreA description that comes to mind when thinking about this place is a "boutique motel". Overall, it was a quiet stay for me during the Thanksgiving week with hardly any other guests around, so it was very serene. However, quite a few things could be improved. For one, the old coffee machines in the rooms could be replaced. The one in my room wasn't working properly, so I had to go to Starbucks in the morning which is about 5-minute walk from the hotel (not a big problem). Actually, thinking about it, it would be a very nice touch to offer coffee in the hotel's lobby for at least a couple hours in the morning. Would make the place feel more personable. Kind of like those B&Bs somewhere in a small French or English town.
The room was (sort of) fine, although if I had to stay in that room longer than a couple days, I would have probably asked to be moved to the second floor or find a different hotel because my room didn't have any day light at all. The window was facing the "courtyard" that had a cover over it that made me think of a circus tent? Something along those lines. So, at any time of day the room was quite dark. Also, there was a musty smell in the room that made it quite unpleasant. On a more positive note, the bathroom was, what I would call, oversized.
One more aspect to be aware of, is the $20 daily parking. If you stay for a few days, it will add up. But that's the issue with a lot of hotels in the Los Angeles area. Everyone tries to charge their guests as much as possible.
Overall, a 2-day stay at this hotel was okay, but I wouldn't call this a "vacation-type" accommodation. There aren't any amenities, really. I was actually doing some remote work while staying at this place, and at some point really wanted to go and work outside for a bit, just to get some air. But the hotel doesn't offer that option. There is no outside sitting area or a small garden or anything like...
