Parking is hard to find. Busy area.
I ate at the Tipsy Cow at 8pm on a Saturday night. Luckily we snagged the last table without waiting. Many came in after us. The decor of the restaurant has a mod retro mix vibe. Very clean. Well designed. The patio had great heaters and would have been comfortable, even in colder weather, but was not being used at this time.
We both ordered the Tipsy burger and we got a side order of fries. The waitress was kind enough to explain that getting a side order of fries between two people would cost a dollar less, while getting a side of fries with meal would cost more and it would be an equal amount of fries.
The food, delicious. Juicy burger, even mine which was cooked sacrilegiously well done. Delicious toppings to accentuate, topped with a toasted glossy bun peppered with sesame seeds.
The timing the food came out was bad. I noticed a table sitting near us also ordered two burgers and a side order of fries. All of which were delivered at the same time, 3 minutes before our burgers came. Our burgers were delivered sans fries. I had to flag down a waitstaff, which took a long time to find one in this tiny pub, to ask for the rest of our meal to be delivered. The meal was not delivered by our waitress. By the time the fries came, our burgers were finished. No reason or apology for this.
Aside from the one time I had to flag down a wait staff our waitress never came to check on us once during the meal. I noticed that all the employees seem to have left out the back entrance at the same time for a few minutes and no one was on the floor to help out. They we're busy rotating in and out this back door and did not bring the check, we had to wait a while to find someone so we could ask for it.
Overall the service was absolutely horrible and lacking. Reflecting upon it, I would have had the same amount of interactions with the wait staff had I gotten a to-go order that was not accurate. That's not worth the tip they ask for on the receipt. Very disappointed because everything else was so good.
Gastropubs serving burgers are plentiful out here. Skip this one and...
Read moreI will never be back to this location. My boyfriend and I stopped in for lunch. 1st of all what kind of manager tries to persuade me to NOT upsell "MY" drink. I asked the manager how much to make my shake a double. Instead of answering my question she says "I suggest you don't get that it over powers the shakE, you're just going to send it back" lol I didn't ask if it tasted good I wanted to know how much. She then makes my drink and it's over a cup ( 8oz) left over in the Metal tin from my DOUBLE shake, Im paying for. Instead of giving me my whole $18 drink I paid for. (How do I know it's over a cup?) she passed out a few FULL 4oz skoshes to people around the bar. So I paid for the shake, paid for my shot and THEN 4 a double shot and she's passing my drink around the bar, and tell people to try it. If you want to sample drinks for guest to try then do it on the restaurants expense & not ON the guest. She even tried to give my boyfriend some of my drink and I told her no. I didn't complain buh was hella aggravated. Then I ORDERED BAKED WINGS!!!! The menu clearly says baked. I cook baked wings and I eat at "LOVE BAKED WINGS by Mike Shand" on Melrose (food is amazing btw. Way better than this place) the wings had a charred flavor! The Charred flavor, hella over powered the dish. MY BF sent his back first. I tried mine to see if I liked it. Yea they sucked. The server that took over our table was agitated cause we both sent food back and explained to me how the food was cook (as if I asked) i said ok I didn't like it. Then the manager that passed out MY drink to the bar SO all the guest can have a good time on me...came over and told me how the wings were prepared. I told her I didn't ask anybody how it's cooked, I eat baked wings all the time. I told her I didn't like em nothing more or less... server is getting attitude with me like she owns the company. She was not slammed with tables. She acted as if me liking the wings or not was gonna change the fact the restaurant pays her minimum...
Read moreTipsy Cow is a nicely designed, comfortable and intimate space offering upscale comfort food with a couple of vegetarian options.
I had an Old Fashioned to drink. It’s their only whiskey-based cocktail on the menu and whiskey is my go-to. I thought it was a little harsh tasting relative to other Old Fashions I’d had recently and nearby but points to them for the single large cube of ice in the middle.
You can get any burger with a plant-based Beyond Burger patty available. My wife got one lettuce-wrapped. (They also offer a gluten-free bun) She thought it was a little overcooked (She likes her beyond burgers juicy and pink.), but generally enjoyed it, including the spicy “1000 sauce” it came with. She had ordered it without onions and it came with them anyway. (ahh the curse of special orders…) She thought the butter lettuce was nice as a wrap.
I had The Tipsy Style Burger, subbing bbq sauce for the 1000, with a beyond patty. I liked it.
I got tots on the side because I wasn’t in the mood for thin-fries or sweet potatoes.
Our server was nice and dealt with all of my jokes about the decor. (The walls were decorated with knives and a big roll of butcher paper…my mind wandered at the possibilities.)
The atmosphere was cool with good music playing and there were families present letting us know they were kid-friendly as well.
Also on the menu for vegetarians are a few sides, Truffle Mac and Cheese, Blue Cheese Tots, Fried Cheese Curds and Buffalo Cauliflower plus salads. (The Beyond Burger is the only main option, but that’s okay since this is primarily a burger place.) You can get shakes too to blend your desire to be in an upscale new-American burger joint that offers a nouveau 50’s diner menu. Though there are plenty of places up and down the boulevard that offer one plant-based patty or another so, although we had a fine experience here we’d probably try other places before...
