Unfortunately I got food poisoning. I have been going for some time, however I haven't been back since. I work for a fish wholesaler, and am ironically in charge of HACCP where I work. When I was eating the sushi, I hadn't noticed at first that it was bad but felt a hard piece. The sushi was filled with fish scales. Not many people may know this, but fish scales can give you food poisoning, because a lot of the bacteria is on the outside fo the fish, and so many fish scales implied that there was improper handling. I promptly stopped eating it but it was too late as I'd eaten at least half. I also found 3 bones and long strings of the white fleshy part. Even though I stopped eating it I knew I was cooked, just cause that's what I do for work. Ended ups with food poisoning and vomiting. Additionally a couple months prior, a latin older mid 40s early 50s (I only give this description so they may know who I am referring to-- as I do not know his name) cashier made comments about how much food I got. I am not a small person, and I am a woman. He looked me up and down, then said, "Wow are you really going to eat all this now?" And proceeded to interrogate me about how I could eat it all. I was incredibly uncomfortable to be shamed like that and whenever I see him there, I usually turn around and leave. Now I just don't go back cause obviously the food poisoning... I am scared. But the reality is the cashier was also a problem. In the photo you can see the bones and some of the scales...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBought some Japanese beers and sushi rolls as is customary when my husband is out of town. I got a yellow roll with yuzu and salmon, and a roll with salmon, tamago, and ahi. I try to never get California rolls at sushi places but needed to this time because it looked delicious and they brought it out fresh in front of me. I was not disappointed. I also got the portabello katsu and seaweed salad. Everything was absolutely delicious. Ingredients are fresh and quality. Prices are good for the ingredients and portions they give. They had a counter with small cuts of fish you could ask to have sliced into sashimi. There were tons of seasonings including poke seasoning. There was a hot food cabinet with curries. You could order combo bento boxes at the counter. I just wanted to grab my food from the fridges and go since this was the first time there and I had no idea what to expect. They sell, beer, wine, sake, and other Japanese drinks. They had some beers I couldn't find at other markets. There were also some displays filled with toys and other little tchochkes, toiletries, and sundries. There were no tables to eat inside but they had some small seating outside. For the most part, it seems more like a takeout place. Service is efficient and courteous. The place is constantly busy and people are always going in and out. When my husband returns I'm definitely dragging...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFood - 5/5 Amazing bang for the buck. Itās not just good for the price, but itās good period. California roll - the biggest Iāve ever seen, with a sweeter crab flavor, avocado, cucumber, and masago. Seaweed salad - the best flavor Iāve ever had (even more than Korean markets and restaurants). Tamago - sweet, savory, delightful. Sashimi - salmon (buttery, smooth), hamachi (smooth, juicy), chutoro (flavorful, fatty), scallop (not pictured but fresh), and squid (not pictured, crisp, smooth) Peach ramune - love the peachy flavor and bubbles
ONLY down side is that they donāt have sushi rice, just regular rice.
Ambiance - 4/5 Thereās minimal seating indoors and outdoors. Itās small, but located in a nice area of the west side. Itās honestly surprising how such amazing fish comes out of such a low key looking area.
Service - 5/5 The FUN thing about this place is you get a lot of what you eat from fridges and then pick up a number ticket to then order your fish, which the chef will slice on spot. The service is quick and they are friendly and knowledgeable.
Other notes: Free parking lot...
