Pride Athena Cafe for the first time today. It's a very casual and Quaint restaurant tucked off a Veterans Memorial Boulevard. The gentleman you took my order was also the cook. He was polite and informative. Answered any questions that I had. The restaurant itself was tidy. No visible issues. The food itself was tasty and high quality. As with most Mediterranean restaurants, I usually try the vegetarian sampler first. This was no exception. No issues whatsoever. Their hummus and baba ganoush was absolutely on point. Their pita bread was definitely ABOVE average. No, not all pita bread is made the same. The tabouli was excellent as well. I wasn't a big fan of the potatoes, but at the same time they weren't bad at all. Would have preferred grape leaves or something else, but that's no big deal. Overall, I definitely recommend Athena cafe. I will be back here in the near future. Check it out...
Read moreDon’t let the modest location of this little Greek restaurant fool you into thinking the food might be anything less than AMAZING! We have eaten here twice so far and ordered a variety of different things and there are some REAL standouts on the menu! The hummus is fresh and creamy, the avgolemono (chicken and rice) soup is hearty and scrumptious. One bite of the buttery spanikopita and it seems like millions of layers of phyllo crunch and crumble away to reveal the delightfully creamy, cheesy filling. The pastitsio is out of this world, the baklava was delicious, I mean, TRULY, I need a thesaurus to find more adjectives to describe the quality of this food. A very casual cafe whose appearance belies them, please go give them a try! I predict big things if they can build a fan club. I can’t...
Read moreAbsolutely delicious food! I’m working my way through the menu but so far I’m obsessed with the Mediterranean salad (fresh, bright and bursting with citrusy herbal flavor!) topped with chicken shawarma or beef or gyro. Had the fried kibbeh, hands down the best tasting I’ve had in the NOLA area. Tonight I tried the moussaka, since I haven’t had this dish since my trip to Greece years ago and was pleasantly surprised to see it on the menu. I’m telling you somebody’s Mama must be in that kitchen cooking because the moussaka was rich, creamy, luscious and absolutely delicious! Also the restaurant is clean, the staff are super friendly and accommodating and they even recognize me with a smile since I’m basically a...
