It always pleases me to leave a stellar review of a place this good, but if I could give it 10 stars, I would. Right when you walk in, the heavenly scent of curry embraces you and let's you know you're in for a treat. The place is remarkably clean and the atmosphere is relaxed. I spent 30 years in Los Angeles, so I'm a seasoned veteran of a variety of curries. Bay Leaf is as good as the best I had there, and better than any I've had since. In fact, I'm not sure I've ever been to a place with such a variety of choices, and with a top notch quality to all of them! If you are looking for exceptional curry, this is your place; not only does it have that authentic British-Indian zest to it, but is as traditional as it gets. And if you are taking someone new out to curry, you couldn't ask for a more perfect example of quality Indian food. I normally start with Vindaloo, Rogan Josh and Tikka masala because I know these dishes so well and was blown away by how great they were! I've tried several other curries and haven't been disappointed yet. In fact, some I'd never seen or heard of before.
Price is right for this level of quality, service and atmosphere....around $18/entre, but be sure to add the Samosa and naan. It's a spicy vegetable pastry and probably as good as any I've ever had, and better than most. The chutney, both mint and plum are outstanding with it.
It really is that good; I've been 5 times already and Bay Leaf has been spot-on consistent every time. Prompt, polite service from friendly people....you can't go wrong here if you like...
Read moreLet me start by going over the positive aspects-
It's in a great location, the ambiance is nice, and the food is delicious! We especially enjoyed our appetizers, the chili chicken and chicken 65. The Naan was flavorful. Our entrées also did not disappoint- chicken curry, tikka masala, lamb kalimirch, and the lamb roganjosh.
The man who kept refilling our drinks was on top of things.
Now, on to the negative aspects-
Our server was awful. She spent her time on her phone and talking to other servers by the corner. We had to wave at her to get additional orders in, get refills on our drinks, and she couldn't really answer any questions regarding the menu. It was especially frustrating that she kept asking to put in our main order when we're still trying to order some appetizers. The food came quick but she forgot to give one of our drinks that was ordered and we could have nicely reminded her except she almost never went to our table.
One of our friends asked for cooked onion on the side and they brought her sliced raw onion. The garden salad is also a joke. Don't order, not worth the $5+ price tag.
The bathroom had a toilet with stool floating in it (first stall). We've seen servers go in the bathroom but they've never addressed because right before we left, it's still there.
Overall, the food is great but we're not sure if we will be returning mainly because of the service. The other server was no better. She had her airpods on while talking to guests. That's very...
Read moreMy sister came from California to visit us and we decided to have some Indian food together hence I took her to this restaurant. We were 5 people and personally I was very hungry..I asked for a table for 5 and I was told to wait...time passed by..another couple also waiting for their turn..! 20 min passed and kids started crying so I decided to ask the manager again for the seat..and finally we were given seat..!
We ordered 3 of Indian dishes and around 5 breads (AKA roti/naan)...it was 8:00 pm..we were waiting..time passed and now 8:30pm I reminded the waiter..no response hence I went to manager and finally some dishes arrived and the waiter said "he will bring bread..." another 20min passed no bread..we were just eating curry....I went to manager again and he brought a single bread (naan) for five people..again waited for 10min and finally decided to go without eating...so I asked the manager for the check and he happily gave me the bill without any apologies..He did't even care that we were not served food..when I said I will complain to Better Business Bureaus, he just ignored me....
This restaurant is poorly staffed and misleading menu titles. We ordered paneer ticka which is a grilled item and he brought us a paneer butter masala ...the quantity served is very less and price is very high with a...
