Bear's Po-Boys offers a delightful taste of the South with its signature sandwiches. During my recent visit, I decided to try their shrimp po-boy, and I can confidently say it was a flavorful experience worth sharing.

From the moment I took my first bite, I was struck by the freshness of the French bread. Unlike many po-boys that can be overly crunchy or stale, Bear's managed to deliver a perfectly soft, yet sturdy roll that cradled the shrimp beautifully. The bread was fresh and held up to the generous portion of shrimp without falling apart, offering the ideal vehicle for all the flavors within.

The shrimp itself was expertly seasoned and cooked to perfection—tender on the inside with a crispy exterior that added a satisfying crunch with every bite. The combination of textures, paired with the simplicity of lettuce, mayo, tomatos and pickles created a balance that made this po-boy delicious. Each subsequent bite left me wanting more, and it was clear that care and quality were paramount in the preparation of this iconic dish.

As for the service, I was met with friendly staff who were attentive and eager to ensure a pleasant dining experience. They were knowledgeable about the menu and helped make recommendations without hesitation, which added a personal touch to my visit.

The atmosphere at Bear's Po-Boys was casual and relaxed, making it a comfortable spot for lunch or a quick bite. While it may not have had the most vibrant ambiance, it perfectly suited the laid-back charm of a traditional po-boy shop.

Overall, my experience at Bear's Po-Boys was a success. The delicious shrimp po-boy exceeded my expectations, and I left feeling satisfied and eager to return. I’ll definitely be making my way to their Covington, LA location soon to try in more of their famous roast beef po-boy. If you find yourself in the area, don't miss out on this gem—your taste buds...

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“As the lead Alpha Wolf, I have to say—Bear’s Roast Beef in Covington is an absolute Wolfpack legend! My aunt, Pamela Hebert, brought me over, and right from the moment we stepped into the den, the hospitality was unmatched. Shout out to my aunt for making this epic trip happen—couldn’t have done it without her guidance!

The front of the house is run by two incredible girls who greet every guest like royalty. Their smiles, energy, and attention to detail made Papa Z and me feel immediately at home. Every member of the crew we met, including the chef, added to the experience with genuine friendliness and care. You can tell they take pride in every detail of the operation, and it shows.

Now, the food—oh, the food! Papa Z and I were howling like full-on alphas at the rich, juicy, perfectly seasoned roast beef. Every bite was bursting with flavor, hitting deep and satisfying like a true Wolfpack feast. My spirit couldn’t help but growl for more, but the portions were so generous that I had to save half for tomorrow—and I’m already counting down the hours until I can finish it. Even the bread was perfect, sturdy enough to hold the epic layers of roast beef, yet soft enough to melt in your mouth.

A massive thanks to Bear, the boys in the kitchen, the two amazing front-house stars, and the entire crew for making this meal unforgettable. From the welcome at the door to the last bite of savory goodness, every detail was perfect. Wolfpack-approved in every way. Papa Z and I will definitely be back, and next time, we’ll be howling louder, growling harder, and diving into another round of pure roast beef bliss. If you’re in Covington and want a meal that hits like an alpha wolf’s feast, this is your den....

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Let me just say this—if you’re headed to New Orleans from Mississippi and you don’t pull over at Bear’s in Metairie, turn around and try again.

Bear’s isn’t just a sandwich stop—it’s a rite of passage. Tucked off the side of the road like a local secret, this humble gem has perfected one thing above all: consistency. I’ve been making this pilgrimage for years, and every time, the experience feels like catching up with an old friend who never changes in the best way possible.

The bread? Always fresh. Pillowy in the middle with just the right outer crunch that soaks up all the good stuff without falling apart. That’s po’boy architecture at its finest. Whether it’s roast beef dripping with gravy, the shrimp fried golden and stacked high, or the catfish with a little Cajun kick—Bear’s delivers with zero fuss, no shortcuts, and maximum flavor.

And don’t get me started on the portions. These po’boys come fully loaded, the kind of sandwich that demands two hands and maybe a few napkins on standby.

In a city where food is religion, Bear’s might not be the flashiest cathedral—but it’s the corner chapel where the faithful gather. If the doors are open when I roll through, you better believe that’s my first stop.

We wanted to try a new to us poboy place and Bears kept coming up on lists of the best, so we decided to give it a try. The parking is kind of difficult. You have to park under the bridge, and it's a free for all. Luckily, we found a spot. We went at opening and got a table easily. The service here is terrific. We told them it was our first visit and they were so happy to have us. By the time we left, it was a full house and I really thinj the service is a big part of that. The restaurant itself is small but cute, clean and comfortable. I got the roast beef poboy which was tender and delicious. My friend got an oyster poboy and let me try it. Holy smokes! Do it. Order it. The oysters were so big and tasted divine! Just a top tier poboy all the way. But the onion rings. OMG. The best. Light, crispy, and so many! All in all, it was a fantastic meal. Definitely will be back!

After approaching the unassuming entrance and dining room, I was greeted by the wonderful staff and steered towards one of the roast beef options. On my first visit, I am certainly glad to have chosen the straight up roast beef. The sandwich arrived as shown on the picture with a rather unassuming appearance. Then, I went to move the tray and discovered just how heavy the sandwich was. After taking a bite, I realized that the fully dressed sandwich was laden with delicious roast beef. After finishing the main sandwich, I was rewarded with a mound of au-juicy debris to finish things off, which then answered my question as to why there was a eoll of paper towels on the table. I wholeheartedly recommend this great find!
