To start it off, parking is an absolute nightmare. The parking lot is very small, and for some reason, they have a valet service which is entirely unnecessary and over the top. The valet was also illegally blocking off handicap spots and then parking non handicap vehicles in those spots. So it took us about 20 minutes just to get a place to park.
After that hassle was over, we get in and we did get seated right away which was the only nice part about the experience. The tables are quite small and jammed close together, and the chairs are a very poor choice of furniture with how uncomfortable they are to sit in so seating was not a fun time in general.
It took about 15-20 minutes just for anyone to come ask us about drinks, let alone take our order. I can understand this to some degree given how busy they were during our visit but it still seemed a bit excessive. After we ordered our drinks, and even ordered our food since we figured out what we wanted with how long we were waiting, we waited another 10 minutes or so just for drinks and then it was going on an hour to get the food. Again a little understandable on the food side given how busy they were and I'm unaware of their staffing situation, but the wait for drinks just seemed excessive.
The menu options seemed extremely bland the entire time I was reading it. I got the breakfast sandwich with Applewood bacon, over easy egg, and cheddar cheese on a brioche bun. The menu said that this sandwich came with my choice of a side. So I looked for the Sides and found the only spot on the menu that said the items were sides. When it came time to order, only 2 to 3 things in the section marked as sides were actually options for me to get. The pancake that was in the Sides section that I wanted was instead an extra 4 dollar addition for a single pancake. Pricing of the stuff seemed excessive and out of proportion.
Finally, the food itself. I can't speak for my mother and brother that ate with me, but the sandwich and cheese grits that I got were some of the blandest and least flavored food I've ever eaten. The bacon was more charcoal than meat, the egg was over fried so the yolks weren't runny like an over easy egg should be. Honestly could not tell that there was even cheese on my sandwich. And even after adding a large amount of sea salt to the very small thing of grits I got as a side, the entire cup tasted like bland regular oatmeal with too much water.
All in all one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had in my life. I'd rather just eat an MRE than go back to this location, but the nail in the coffin and the entire reason I even bothered to post this was that the valet was blocking off the handicap spots, which is where my mother normally parks as she is a...
Read moreThe food is always great at Ruby slipper, and I’ve never had a disappointing visit no matter which location I go to. Yesterday I took my family who were visiting from out of state, and for the first time I/we had a pretty poor experience. Everything our waitress did for us she did it hurriedly and wouldn’t come back to our table unless we summoned her. She hurriedly set our food on the table and left to attend to another tablet, and it was not because she was that busy. She did not ask or would not ask if we needed anything else the entire time. Mind you we didn’t have silverware, butter, napkins, etc. When she came near us, we had to get her attention to make her come to the table to give us these things. When she came back she had forgotten some things and we had to wait again, so my niece proceeded to get up to go see if she could get it herself. The bottom line of it all is that she was very attentive to her other guests engaging them in conversation, etc, but everything she did for us she hurriedly did it and would not come back. I cannot say it was racism because we are of the same persuasion. Perhaps she thought we would not tip her like the others although we did so RELUCTANTLY. I will always go back to Ruby Slipper because the food is perfect, but if she’s my waitress, I will definitely ask...
Read moreSo we went 2/21/24 we drove in from Texas. So excited to visit New Orleans with my family for the first time. We checked in and waited about an hour to get seated. We didn’t care because we knew the food would be worth it! And it was! The reason I am scoring bad is because the hosted told us the table was ready, pointed to the table and said y’all can go. My family and I walked over and the guy was cleaning the table. He seemed annoyed. I just figured because it was busy and he was the only one. The hostess then comes screaming throughout the restaurant “you all need to wait till I seat you” “what’s wrong with you” “there is money on the table” She was rude and awful. And also told other patrons in the restaurant “what are they thinking?”We were so confused and embarrassed. We come from Texas where we leave tips on the table and sit down the waitress gets her tip. She told us to sit and we were confused. Then two mins later she says the same thing “your table is ready” and pointed to the table. I told her we would wait till she walked us over. Let me say this the waitress was awesome, kind and a great server! The food was amazing just like we thought but I wanted to make it known the hostess was awful and slightly ruined the...
