Haiku Hibachi and Sushi — Restaurant in Louisiana

Great environment, excellent Sushi and service. The place definitely carries a North Shore price tag, though.

My fiancée and I had the Utah and Burning Man rolls and found them both to be excellent. The edamame was steaming hot when it reached our table and was done to perfection, and I loved the fact that it was not drowned in salt. Our glasses never reached empty because the staff checked in on us quite often, but never loitered about our table too long.

Another party was enjoying a Hibachi lunch and the Chef appeared quite talented.

We will definitely be going back to try out the Hibachi experience, as well as continued visits to satiate our sushi cravings.

Updated review to 5 stars. See edit below, please - Only reason I'm holding back to 4 stars is because of an apparent lack of ventilation (no vent hoods over hibachi grills). This could possibly lead to a very hazy restaurant if all the grills are going, full tilt. Also, life changing experience? No. Very good sushi with a relaxed and nicely spaced out environment? Absolutely!

Edit: We went back on a whim to try the Hibachi for dinner and it was excellent! Our Chef was Vēla (spelling?) and he was a delight! It was just my Fiancée and I that he was preparing food for, so he was very personal and open to converse with us. We spoke at length about his experiences as a chef, and he even shared some cooking insight with us! He's prepared to show off and do the entire Hibachi routine if you want, or he can be as disengaged as you want, too.

Roaches and crunchy rice! DO NOT EAT HERE!!! Read other reviews about the roaches in food and on the grill. We have gone here for over a year and in the beginning it was great and has fallen way off. Enjoyed this place until we had just finished out hibachi dinner and a roach crawled across the top part of the grill and on to the counter. A waitress came and killed it but what a disgusting experience. The grills have become really nasty. I have seen left over food from the previous hibachi meal and have asked the chef to clean it before preparing our meal (pieces of egg and rice in the corners, charred sauce on the edges). We took a break from the place for several months after that happened.

Today I went and had sushi for lunch waited over 30 minutes for a simple order. All of my friends had eaten and were ready to go before my food even came out. The rice was crunchy, extremely crunchy. GROCERY STORE SUSHI IS BETTER THAN THIS! It was like they ran out of rice and tried to make some really quick. The tuna that was in my food was stringy and very chewy with a bad after taste, I had to spit out several pieces. Very low grade and poor quality fish. I told the waitress and nothing was done (maybe language barrier, not many speak English very well) and they still charged me for my food. I don't have a problem paying for my food but at least offer me something else to eat. They took my food away and swiftly handed me the bill. NEVER AGAIN WILL I EAT HERE!

The roaches alone should have kept me away from this place. Health inspectors really need to pay this place a visit. The Fire Marshall also since they have a bunch of boxes by the restrooms that you have to shimmy through in order to...

I placed a large order ($182) of specialty rolls to go and paid ahead of time. I then realized that I forgot to add 2 veggie rolls to my order, called back and they added them on a second order. When we picked the order up, the man told me that the veggie rolls were in the bag with the sauces. We got home, put all 11 specialty rolls out onto the counter and realized there were no vegetable rolls.

No big deal… called my friend to ask him to pick them up on his way, then called the restaurant to let them know that we didn’t receive the two rolls and that someone would be there soon to get them. The man ARGUED tooth and nail with me that he did, in fact, put them in the bag and that we did have them. After explaining to him 4 times that I emptied every bag and we absolutely did not have them, he continued to argue with me. He finally caved in and said “ok I’ll make them again, are you going to come get them?”

When my friend arrived to pick them up, the man basically threw the bag at him.

They could not have tried any less to assemble these rolls. This review isn’t about a veggie roll or them forgetting to put it in the bag. This is about poor customer service. We absolutely will...
