This was our second visit to New Orleans. We were unable to visit Cafe Du Monde on our first visit so it was on the top of our list this time. We located a Cafe Du Monde in Covington which was on our route home. Upon our arrival I noticed the parking lot was empty and wondered if it was closed. It wasn’t. The young man who greeted us was busy frying and told us someone would be with us soon. The women who took our order seemed to be irritated with yet more tourists who had never been to a Cafe Du Monde. She never cracked a smile and that was when my excitement was cut short. I enjoyed the vintage photos and merchandise displayed. I did not like the stickiness of the floors as we squeaked to a table. The table top was also very sticky and I began to wonder if management was okay with that. Our beignets were awesome and every expectation was kicked out of the ballpark! They were fresh and hot and we savored them. I am not a French roast coffee lover especially without cream so I threw my coffee away after a few sips. When I was ordering my beverage I stated I wanted a plain coffee with cream. The unhappy woman asked if I wanted an Americano. I did not want an espresso drink so I replied no I want plain coffee with room for cream. She asked if I wanted French roast. I asked what other roasts do you have? She replied just French and we don’t have cream just whole milk. Ok then this tourist really didn’t have a clue so I ordered a French roast coffee with milk. Yuck! Always remember: there is a reason for empty parking lots. We...
Read moreHave never had bad beignets at Cafe du Monde at any location over many, many visits the past 15 years - until this time. One table of 7 was waiting for beignets when we arrived. We ordered and were told they were just getting a new batch of dough finished up so it would be a short wait. So we waited. And waited. And drank the horribly cold cafe au lait we ordered. And waited some more. Then an employee came out and told us they were having trouble with the dough and gave us a coupon for our next visit. A new table of 4 came and were told it would be 30 minutes until they’d be served so they left. We waited more. Finally we saw them start to plate the beignets. We watched all three staff members surround them and test them and we knew they were not happy with the product they were sending out, but they sent them out. I should have taken a photo but forgot. The beignets were all really flat and when we bit into them, they were chewy and doughy and not anything like they should be. We heard the other table sayin the same thing. None of us at either table ate very much, but we tried to eat a few because we had been waiting so long and were so excited for them after not being able to travel to new Orleans for so long. There was obviously a huge issue with the dough and/or oil and we all should have just been told that and given a refund rather than having us sit there waiting for...
Read moreArrived here at around 615am, at the time the staffed seemed half asleep and pretty much ignored me when I asked where the restroom was.. my partner decided to use the restroom while I browsed the menu. It was my first time here and I didn't even know how to order. When it was my turn to use the restroom I can hear my partner laughing, always the one to start a conversation w strangers. Nonetheless, when I came out I was greeted by Clarice and Beau and they were happy enough to share the history of Chicory coffee a second time. They were very friendly, I just think we needed a sec. The place was clean and were given samples of their frozen iced coffee.
The beignets were delicious!! Paired well with the Chicory coffee!! I wished I lived near by because I would be here every day.
They told us the history and we told them about our road trip with our fur baby. They immediately said you can sit outside and we will put these on plates for you, what a plus that its super dog friendly.
Thanks again...
