I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner here! So much that I went to one of the wine dinners less than a week later. Hillary remembered me when I called and made sure to make me feel welcome for the wine dinner even though I was going to be a bit late.
The staff is so attentive and friendly, they are organized and don't rush you like most places. Our waitress helped us choose entrees, answered questions and even just made small talk. The atmosphere is very calming and relaxing. Perfect for an after work drink and unwind.
Now let's get to the food... The crab cakes were amazing! There is more stuffing than crab but the flavors with the sauce made it worth it. The prime rib medium was cooked perfectly. I didn't care for how the potatoes were cooked. They were like crispy on the outside so that made the skin hard to cut through and the inside was soft. All the veggies were good. It came with asparagus, the cauliflower, mushrooms, and spinach. I took the spinach home and ate it with chips. I do wish it came with more carbs but I didn't feel overly full and everything was so fresh. We also had the steak which came with the same sides.
For dessert we got the cake that was like Chantilly cake and it was soo good. The fruit was fresh and the cake was moist and flavorful.
I will go back again and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband and I have been here twice and loved the food and drinks. However, we will NOT be back. A few months ago, there was a snafu with our reservation (I reserved for 4, but they had us down for 2) and were unable to accommodate us for dinner. I can forgive a mistake once. Because the restaurant is small and fills up quickly, I made reservations weeks in advance for NYE and ensured our reservation was correct at the time of booking. I received a confirmation call ONE DAY ahead and was informed that the menu was prix fixe only and $65 a person. No regular menu would be available. WTH? There was no information provided at the time I made the reservation and what decent restaurant is going to have a reservation available the day before New Year's Eve? The manager only said she could work with "dietary needs", but I'd have to tell her in advance. I don't know what all 4 people would want in advance, but it was definitely not what was on the Prixe Fixe menu. If I wanted a giant, 3 course meal instead of a few appetizers and wine, I would have made reservations at Ruffinos, not Proverbial Wine Bistro.
Thanks for completely ruining my NYE plans, Proverbial. I expect a lot better from a restaurant run by City...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSadly I must let you know our experience was very poor. This was our second visit to this restaurant. The first visit was only a few weeks after the restaurant opened. The food was pretty good on that visit but the wine list was limited for a place called "Proverbial Wine Bistro". However on that visit our service was very sub standard. It took over 20 mibutes just to get drink and the food took almost an hour. But we chalked it up to a restaurant that was still working out the kinks. So we chose to give it another shot about 2 months later. So tonite we went and the service was much much better. However the wine menu was still the same limited list. But we did find a pretty good bottle which we enjoyed. However the meal was terrible at best. The seafood board was no better than something I would buy in the frozen food aisle in Albertsons. Not including the wine, the bill for just two of us was well over $100. Honestly the food wasn't worth $10. In my book, two strikes and your out. Sorry, but that will be our last visit to "Proverbial...
