Our family wanted a place to dine after a long drive down to meet my daughter, and this fine Italian restaurant was within a block's walk of our hotel. The parking lot was tiny. parking for about 5 cars, 5 more cares behind the building, and about 10 across a quiet street. The building and signage is beautiful, especially in twilight with the neon in beautiful gold and red. It's apparent many people opt for reservations, but we simply walked up, and the wait was short, about 15 minutes. We were led upstairs, where two tables had been pulled together to accommodate our party of 7. There's a wine menu and their main menu recommends good wines to go with every dish. The dishes are varied but all are authentic Italian. For the price (around $30/plate) I found a bit much water and juice in my lasagna, but it's authentic and tasted so. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her shrimp linguini. It had a restaurant signature name but I don't recall it. Here's a photo. My sons opted for the spaghetti with meatballs. The meat appeared to be sausage and had some heat to it, enough that they commented on it. Everyone else thoroughly enjoyed their food. We didn't have to wait long for our food. Gratuity was baked into the ticket. The cost for 7 was a little less than $300, which was not unexpected for the fine dining and atmosphere.

I’m going to start by saying this; I definitely recommend Ristorante Filippo! I wasn’t sure what to expect, but Baby (in my NOLA accent) let me tell you, my family and I had an amazing dining experience. We were first greeted with a genuine smile and though our stop was impromptu we were seated within 5 minutes (maybe less). Our server was a handsome Italian looking guy who at first looked a little intimidating but he turned out to be very nice 😊. We had the privilege of speaking with the owners and meeting Mr. Filippo himself ,😍a handsome Italian fella who definitely knows his way around the kitchen ;the food was Molto delizioso!!❤️⭐️🌟 The atmosphere was very welcoming and comfortable, I felt like was in my own scene of The Godfather, sitting around the table with my family surrounded by plenty of food and drinks and laughter. Thank you for an enjoyable experience.

This place is family owned and operated. The owners are very personable and lovely. Unfortunately my fiance and I went on a very unexpected busy night for them. They said it was the second busiest day since Thanksgiving and they were not expecting such a large crowd. It was our first experience and we waited at our table for 3 hours for our food. They were so apologetic that they gave us free drinks and cannoli. And in all honesty after we waited there for 3 hours they should have comped our dinners. We decided to take our food home to go to eat due to the fact that it was so late. But I have to admit it is the best Italian food I have ever eaten. I will not allow this strange occurrence stop me fro giving them another chance. It's a little piece of Italy sitting right smack in the middle of Metairie. Kudos to the chef.

I would not be able to rate the food as the OWNER was so RUDE we left before we were seated. I made reservations for 7 this weekend. I had two people back out at last minute so our party of 7 became a party of 5. I explained that to the lady that greeted us at the door. As soon as I told her our number of guests changed, her attitude changed. She told me that I should have called and let them know, that every seat counts. While I understand that, I was not informed of our other 2 guests joining us until very late in the evening. Also, when you enter the restaurant, there is no waiting area. You walk in and you are practically on top of other guests seated at their tables. My husband had his back to the door when we entered. Another lady came in behind us but walked to a table. The door was left open. The OWNER proceeds to tell my husband to shut the door it is hot outside. Again, she was not very nice about it. Since there is very little room to move around, he shut the door, but with his back facing the door. The door did shut loudly, but the OWNER, yelled at him and told him that he did not have to slam the door. It was not his intention to slam the door. At this point my husband was ready to go. I had asked to wait and give it another try, which we did. My husband told our daughter in her ear that he will never come back to this restaurant again. He did not yell it for the entire restaurant to hear, but the OWNER did. She then proceeded to yell at him again. She yelled, what did you just mumble! He told her he was not talking to her, he was talking to his daughter. At that point, I had enough of the OWNERS rudeness. I told my family that we should leave, which we did. I told the OWNER I thought it was best we go. She continued to follow us as we were leaving. The best advice I would give the OWNER is to hire someone to run the front of the house. She does not have the right personality to deal with customers. I have never been treated like this at any restaurant EVER! Especially...

I wish that I had never walked into this place. Being a chef myself, I love supporting family owned establishments. I read the reviews and I thought that I would love this place, but nothing could be further from the truth. The place is falling apart for starters, and my guest shared her concerns, but the owner's wife was welcoming, so I said, "Lets' give this place a chance," so we stayed. Nothing went right from this point forward: Items listed on the menu were not available, the wait staff were inattentive (I had to clear my own table twice), odd ingredient choices by the chef/owner, who, by the way, was seldom in the kitchen, but was constantly working the room. All of their tomato sauce is sweet - not just a little, but like candy. Their response was that this is the Sicilian way of preparing tomato sauce. It was too sweet and detracted from the food's flavor. I do not know a single Italian that would agree with their recipe. The waitress took her time to check on us and by the time she did, we had eaten some of the dish, because we were tired and hungry and just wanted to get out of there. I discussed my concern of the sauce with the waitress and she got the owner's wife, who had greeted us earlier. I will spare you the detail, but it got really ugly fast. They kept insisting that we stay and that they would give us desserts. I said that I didn't want a dessert, that I just wanted to leave. We felt like prisoners. Finally, they brought me the bill after much back-and-forth. I paid my bill and left with my guest. The chef/owner followed me out of the restaurant while yelling at me and telling me that I was a horrible person. Although I felt charitable to this family, they were very rude and in my opinion, have no business running a restaurant. All they want is your money. The food was as poor as the service and I truly have never been treated so poorly in my 50 years of restaurant dining. Gordon Ramsey... Please take notice of this place. They...

Very Disappointing Before the pandemic, we came to this restaurant every time we came to town. Last night we were delighted to go again to this old favorite. The place hadn't changed in appearance, but the service and food were a big letdown. We ordered a large Oyster Oreganate appetizer and the dish was warm on the surface and refrigerator cold in the middle. Our entrees were veal picatta and that night's special Trout Almandine. I like capers but the veal picatta was completely overwhelmed with them. It was all you could taste. I ended up separating capers off to the side and the result was an entire 2 oz bottle's worth on the plate. We expected the trout, a delicate fish, to be sauteed. Instead, it was deep fried and overcooked. Our waiter was slow and indifferent. When I told him about the problems with the dishes, he just walked away without a word . At the end, he cleared the dishes and left us with water glasses, waiting while he settled the neighboring tables split bill and doggy bag. (The waiters only other table). 15 minutes later we finally got our credit card to sign. The restaurant was overly air conditioned cold and when sitting at the padded bench for the table you sink into the seat until your knees are just hanging on a rail. I had to switch to a hard chair. We will no longer return to this restaurant. Hopefully, they will return to their...
