Rotolo's Craft & Crust — Restaurant in Louisiana

First the good part. My wife and her friend had lunch at Rotolo’s a few weeks ago. She was impressed. The restaurant was quiet, the service was prompt and efficient. She had the tomato soup and a salad. The soup was good. The salad was ok.

Based on her experience, I was eager to try it. So we went for some pizza on an early Tuesday evening. It was not a good visit. Part of the problem was probably our fault. We asked for a booth and the only one available was at the far back corner of the restaurant. It turned out to be a sort of black hole. When we were seated we got the menus right away. Then nothing. No water, no service at all. Finally, we got up and went looking for a server. Having found one, we were finally able to order. I asked if they have any drafts on nitro. Our waitress seemed to have no idea what I was talking about. I should have consulted my Untappd App before we went there because she was not helpful at all. We ordered one Margherita pizza to share. We were served our beers and then after a very long wait went looking to see where our pizza was. Shortly thereafter, it was delivered. One would think that coming out of an 800° oven a pizza would be hot. This one was barely warm. By the time we finished our first slice, it was cold. It was served on a cold metal plate. We took it back to the kitchen to have it reheated. It was returned a bit warmer than the first time, but just that—warm. After a second slice of barely warm pizza the rest was again cold and we didn’t finish.

The restaurant was very full. As a result, the noise level was very high, around 80 dB average, even in the black hole at the back corner of the restaurant.

When my cousin and I were seated there was only 7 customers in the restaurant that included us. After seating us the waitress went to talk to a gentleman at the bar. She finally came back and asked us what we wanted to drink. She brought my cousin water and my drink and then walked away. We waited patiently for her to return. She finally returned with my cousins alcoholic beverage. We asked her if we could add veggies to the pizza she said yes and walked away again, even though we were ready to order. We waited another 10 mins for her to return even though she had made her rounds to every other table being polite but ours. She finally came back took our order and left. They then changed shifts. After a hour and no one returning to our table I asked where our appetizer was. The new waitress went to check. She finally brought our wings out. (Which were pretty decent.) She stated the first waitress did not put it in as an appetizer. My cousin order another drink. She brought the drink but still no Chicago style deep dish pizza. We waited, I finally asked the waitress again where our pizza was, she went to check she came back and said they made a mistake and had to redo the order. We waited again. We finally received our order the crust was burnt and the pizza was nasty. The service was horrible. Both waitresses were more worried about smiling in a man's face at the counter and all the other patrons around us then to give us service. 1/31/24 :Update! from 5 stars to 3 stars 😔 i hate to do this but i have to update my review my first time eating here i was in cheesy pizza heaven.. well i guess i reviewed my experience too soon because i’ve been back atleast 5 times trying to duplicate my first experience & it’s failed horribly every. single. time! idk what happened or changed but the pizza now sucks. it’s hard. it always taste like it’s been made previously and was just heated up. my last & final time i tried to order a cheese pizza. i ate like half my slice and gave up. it was so hard & dry. i called the next morning to get it replaced.. they offered to replace it but i decided to not go. & just give up trying to recreate that first experience i had. maybe in a couple months i’ll try again. who knows smh 😔

this may sound dramatic but i’m really sad because it’s so hard finding good pizza & for a second i thought i had fixed that issue
