Saia's is one of my go to spots when I'm in town visiting family! First, they have an excellent selection of bourbon and scotch (wine and beer also). The prices are usually a tad lower than other liquor in the area. A good bottle of Glenlivet 15 yr ran me about $80. The meat counter has some really good quality steaks! Tip: Ask for the pork belly and have it sliced thick. Makes an amazing BLT sandwich! Go around lunch kr dinner and order a poboy or their amazing fried chicken! We just did a grad party for my son and ordered 44 pieces of fried chicken. People were tearing it up! For lunch a shrimp poboy and small onion rings for about $11. And the poboys come whole!! Staff is always friendly and personable. If you're in the Mandeville, LA area visiting or live in the area make Saia's a stop!! Just look for...
Read moreSeriously, I love this place for meat, great butchers, and booze! My parents shopped here in the 80's, and it has an "old school" feel about it which is so authentic. But, c'mon guys, I've given your deli a few chances on the shrimp po'boys, and they're consistently awful, and I'm not that picky. I bought a few shrimp po'boys, and it's been a few months since my last. They were (again) small, but can deal if they weren't fried beyond recognition! My friends asked what they were! Ha! Super salty, and fried until they've become crispy nuggets. The catfish was better, but still over salted. PLEASE improve the deli, it's really not...
Read moreI shop here as much as I can before HAVING to go to the grocery store. Also, went to Popeye's for chicken and their chicken legs are the size of a wing. No exaggeration. When I show up on time for fresh fried chicken at Saia's, I am reminded why I don't go to Popeye's any more. Good ole Louisiana hot sauce and Saia's fried chicken when it's fresh should be patented. Back to normal size chicken. đ YAY! đ The meats are top notch too. The guys back there work hard and will cut it how you like it. I'm happy every time I go. Blue Bell ice cream is on sale pretty often lately too....
